What is the easiest to use free video editing software out there?

Thinking about starting a few projects utilizing my Kodak zi8 digital video camera. Just wondering if anyone can suggest an easy to use software that will allow me to do basic editing, add text into the videos, music, etc...looking for a free solution but willing to spend a few bucks for an easy to use and learn solution.

Just to add, I'm not looking to make cinematic master pieces, but I would like to be able to produce something decent.

  • If you're running WinOS have you tried the free built-in "movie maker"?
  • I've always enjoyed using Sony's Vegas Movie Studio. Pretty easy to use with lots of free tutorials around and priced from $50 - $150 depending on what features you need.

    Just about anyone that makes editing software offers a free trial, so put together a list of the features you need, find a program that offers them and try it out to see what you think.
  • i have used movie maker many times..for basic editing, adding text etc..it works just fine and is free!
