How much are glengarry leads worth?

Hey there,

I have a bunch of business lists which I scrubbed clean (that means, no wrong numbers, and fairly up to date). Some with owner's name, some without.

I know someone who will buy them cash and the leads he buys are often crap (14 years +), how much is a fair price? His office doesn't make a lot of dial per week --- maybe 1 or 2 thousands top, I could probably arrange to have some1 scrub new leads for me so I could see myself doing this as a weekend gig for pocket money

Here are some things to find out to price them right

    1. Current price he pays for leads
    2. Current closing ration
    3. Current number of "bad" leads that your list would eliminate.
    4. Value of a closed sale to him.

If he is selling $20 items they won't have the same value as leads for $20k system.

If your lists are better he will pay a premium for them vs his old leads. But if he can't get double the value he won't pay double normally. Think like that.

Hell you might just want to price your lists the same as he currently pays. That way you know you have him locked in at least until someone offers a better list.

      These are the Glengarry leads.

And to you they're gold, and you don't get them.

      Why?

Because to give them to you would be throwing them away.

      They're for closers.

I think glengarry leads are worth a lot. If I was you, in order to find who is worthy of using the leads, I would make a 1 week competition among salesmen. The first price a Cadillac, second price a set of steak knivesand of course the third price is the firing of the losers. Just a wild suggestion

It sounds like you have a great list. But these aren't leads to me. Leads are people that either have shown an interest, asked for information, have proven that they are familiar with your brand, or have bought a service similar to one you sell.

But that's just what I consider leads. I'm not a telemarketer, and I have never bought a list of names to cold call. if I'm off base here, just tell me.

But do it gently. I'm a dainty flower swaying in the breeze.

By the way, I hated that movie. Phenomenal acting, great story. I just hated it because it portrayed salespeople as losers, cheaters, lowlifes. In other words, like some salesman really are. I saw Salesman, the real life story of a group of Bible salesmen in the 1960's.
Depressing as hell for me. Mostly because I've known guys like that. It just saddens me.

The Glengarry leads were valuable because they were prospects who had the money and the desire to buy. Previous leads lacked that. Your leads have up to date phone numbers. That makes them Glengarry level?

I hear Death Of A Salesman is a merry romp. Guy spends his life as a salesman. When he decides to help fund his son's career, hilarity ensues. Check it out.

I saw the play with Dustin Hoffman in the lead. I have a strong prejudice against salespeople being portrayed as losers. I even have a stronger prejudice against bad, low life salespeople in real life. I mean it's pathological. After I get out of business, I hope it goes away.

You need to learn Roger Ebert's Law: "A movie is not about what it is about. It is about how it is about it."

Glengarry Glen Ross is a perfect movie.

I agree completely. It is the fact that is a masterpiece that makes it affect me. There are great movies that are tragic (And this is a tragic movie).
I put this right up there with Twelve Angry Men (with Henry Fonda) or Lincoln (one just out). Amazing films.

It just affects me in a different way than most. Mostly Salesman...because those guys were real.

Glengarry was also about salesmen depending on leads to get appointments. These guys were slaves to the lead source.

Again, a great movie, a classic, and one I watch every time it's on TNT..but it depresses the hell out of me.

And where are all the women on this Offline Forum????!!!???!!

I'm with you on 12 Angry Men. I haven't seen Lincoln, but I know from what I've read it's a piece of statist propaganda tripe. Of course, that's what it's about, not how it's what it's about, so I might see it eventually.

Oh look, there's a woman in the Offline Forum!
