Direct mail campaigns

Has anyone here used direct mail campaigns (grabber-included direct mail to specific prospects every few weeks) for their prospecting efforts? What are some of the success stories you've experienced or heard using this approach? I'm looking for recent real-life stories of the Chet Holmes's Dream 100 campaign.

Thanks in advance!

Direct mail is a billion dollar industry. There are hundreds of success stories using direct mail.

Now Maybe on this forum there arnt many direct mail stories simply because this place is more or less a telemarketing/email forum. Of course their are exceptions... Such as myself

I dont know who Chet Holmes is but i use direct mail pretty much exclusively to market my services. I do use "warm" calls after I send a letter.

    To your success,

I don't know of direct mail campaigns used by Chet's company or his clients.

Hi company has extensively used radio advertising to fuel his company.

    Have you read his book?

The main point is having data available that is a threat to their industry
and making contact with them with the offer to show it to them.

It's devised to get easy access to the decision makers.

How it got in their hands was less important than the right damaging data being presented.

    Best,
    Ewen

Yes, I have read his book. I'm more intrigued on case studies of the Dream 100 client strategy.

I've been doing a slightly-modified version of the Dream 100 approach in my B2B sales rep position.

My variation is to use grabbers and notecards tying the grabber into the product I'm selling.

I gave a prospect a small container of WD-40, with a notecard saying, "Take the squeeks out of your X-program with my company's customized solutions," and signed my name.

I got into 2 or 3 out of the 5 I targeted by just dropping off a grabber once.

One is a well-known children's clothing manufacturer's main US distribution center, and the other is a Tier 1 Honda auto parts supply factory.

The other was a 7-location chain of supermarkets.

And this was after telemarketing these prospects at least 2 dozen times over 3 months, each.

I have proposed 2 of those accounts for business, and think I fare a good shot at one. The other I barely missed out on, as they switched vendors right about the time I followed up on the gift.

What are you selling during the campaign?

I don't have a direct mail success story yet but I actually ordered three different sets of postcards this week and I'm hoping to mail out small quantities every day and see how that goes. It more of an experiment than anything else, but if it's a money maker I'll stick with it.

Each postcard is a completely different offer and leads people to a different website. I plan on sending the postcards to specific niches that I want to work with. I guess I'll see how it goes over the next month or two.

This is a very structured and rewarding way of absolutely dominating markets, tie down every piece of information some one gives you or will give you then constantly use the tools they willingly provided you to touch base with them through offers, information, ohai's! whatever. When they are ready to buy they have no choice but to use you and only you.

I'm receiving a $6 to $1 return on my investment with direct mail.

    Currently doing the following:

    - Targeting business owners who currently are doing online marketing
    - Selling them SEO services via a package

    Here's my direct mail strategy:

    - Large Manilla envelope (8 x 11)
    - Hand-written address on envelope
    - One sales letter inside
    - 2 dice (add a little bulk to it)
    - A $1 bill attached to the top right corner of the letter

I'll send out 50 at a time and my sales guy will call them each week. He'll close 1-2 clients with each mailing for anywhere around $1,000 - $3,500.

Adam, am I correct that the 6 to 1 return you are getting is
      on the first sale...right?

Even if you broke even on the first month, you've got a lifetime of monthly revenue coming in.

      Thanks,
      Ewen

Yea, it's on the first sale...

So in reality, it's actually a much higher return. For instance, we have 4 clients paying $7,500 a month from our $1000 mailer program and they've been clients for 3-4 months.
