What cold calling techniques are working for you?

I'd love to hear from Warriors having success with cold calling.

Did you jump straight in? Trial and error?

Did you learn kick a$$ techniques, if so, recommendations?

Cheers

I pretty much follow Jason Kanigan's method(s). Lots of info here to search. For me the most important thing was arriving at realistic expectations, determine the ratios/numbers needed to get to a certain revenue, and of course write up an actual conversation that can be repeated over and over. From there its a matter of making dials and getting better at it.

edit: I think I am still horrible at it because my time is limited to prospecting and my time focused on it is really choppy so its hard to restart things or do it with any real consistency. Future holds more focused commitment tho!

    1. Get biz owners name ahead of time or use a "little unsure" approach.
    2. Get a little permission from the DM to continue.
    3. Deliver a to-the-point 30.second commercial include pain points.
    4. Qualify in/out for need at this point.
    5. If qualified in then continue by monetizing pain points.
    6. Set appointment or run online demo right then.

Cheers James, I put together an intro, would love some feedback.

Hi, I'm Rob Tierney from Bring It Video

I'm calling because we've helped many local businesses like yourself with their online marketing using promotional videos, bringing our clients more traffic and leads.

We've found a lot of clients we first talk to consider video marketing to be too expensive, but you'd be surprised at how affordable it actually is.

Would you be interested in promoting your services with online video?

I prefer to stay away from this kind of question. Instead I would focus on the pain:

"I am not sure if you have these kinds of problems but perhaps this is something worth talking about with me for a few minutes?".

The "budget" items would come up later, not in an intro.

You should probably follow the experts rather than rely on me, I've simply implemented some of the suggestions I have come across.

I'd say you might want to attach some real numbers to your pitch. You can save "x amount", "our customers see an average # of new customers with our", etc...

One repeating concept I read here is how business owners dont have the time or interest in trying to understand generalities --- just give them some basic numbers they will understand, relate to their world and that they can process in their mind quickly.

Also, some here really focus on qulifying prospects right away on need and they do this by bringing up possible pain or problems that your prospects may have in their business. If they dont have it then move on to the next prospect.

Initially, between $67 - $180 for online videos with the intention to upsell to monthly recurring SEO packages, $300 - $2,000.

I have some experience, not a lot, at outbound telephone marketing. But because it's sales, sales is something I can say I have a goodly experience with.

First of all, EVERYTHING involves trial and error.

Here's what I find works pretty well:

    Curiosity.
    Not being hypey.
    No arrogance.
    Details.
And being able to map the recipient's mind (which to me means by virtue of what you've said and how you've said it, intentionally leads the person to think something, and since you know what they're probably thinking, you can answer the question on their mind which helps progress the sale).

Is it better to ask to speak to someone, or just launch straight into what your ringing about?

      a) My script above (rough version, will be improved)

      or

      b) "Hi, my name is Rob Tierney from Bring It Video, could I speak to whoever's in charge of your marketing?"

      If "they're not available",

"No problem, could I get their name, contact details and the best time to reach them?"

I always ask who I should be speaking with there about...

either a intriguing big fat juicy benefit

        or

about a problem that they would consider important.

If no joy on either of those, it tells me The intriguing benefit isn't so...come up with another

        or

the so called problem of theirs is low priority and don't see the implications.
Back to the drawing board to see if I can come up with
        something that rattles their cage.

        Best,
        Ewen

I would say 2 steps, build rapport on first call and set up an appointment. When you call them back for your appointment then close the deal. This is by far the most effective.

    Making the calls.

In over 3 decades of making cold calls, that's the best cold calling technique I know of.

    Making the calls.

    Try it.

I wouldn't mention videos at all in the cold call just what the videos will get them.

If a video will get them an extra 3 customers a week...use that in your script.

When they answer say something like:

"Hey there, I was wondering if you could help me out?"

      "Sure"

"If I had 3 people who were looking to get their roofs fixed this week...who would I talk to?"

      "Um...that would be John Doe."

"Great...may I speak to John Doe please?"

      "This is John"

"Hey John, I got about 3 people who are looking to get their roofs fixed and I was wondering if I could schedule a 15 minute talk with you to see if you'd be a right fit for me to partner with and send these people to you."

      "Just send them over..."

"Well...that's what I wanted to talk with you about. I'm looking for a roofing company to partner with that can handle the 3 people I will send them every week. When can we talk? Tuesday at 2? or Thur at 4?"

Well you never answered who you are calling but I am going to assume its small biz owners.

Im not sure if it fits your personality but this is what I would
do based on the price points you mentioned.

I would devise a quick pitch script that finds people that are interested in video and is ready to get started RIGHT NOW.

Make them an irresistable offer and move on if they arent ready to make a move...
No time to be calling back and doing 2 attempts or all that other nonsense to sell a product for less than $100, especially when that same product is routinely sold for $500 to $1000+ by others in that market.

Here is an example. Very rough just to give you the concept and attitude.
Hi this is the Big Ballsack Mcghee with "Crush your Competion Video"
I help small business owners who want to project a big business image to elevate their brand and dominate their competition.

I can help you make a powerful 60 second commercial that will tell your story and have people begging to do business with you.

Does this appeal to you Mr. "I cant find any videos of you anywhere online so I went to your competition?"

Well today is your lucky day. If it were your bright idea to get a kick ass video made then you could expect to pay anywhere from $500 to $1000 or more.
We want to introduce ourselves into your market so if you are willing to let us add a small tag at the end of the video that it made by our brilliant company then we will make this commercial for you for only $100.

I would tell them to go website and put in cc info NOW to lock in their spot. They can also look at samples and see you are legit as well.
After they are paid up we will talk again about the specifics for your commercial.

You should be able to sell several of these per day.
For real, this is like taking candy from a baby.
Then of course you can talk about addons and additional services later.
