I would like to get everybody's feed back on my business model. Please let me know on any thoughts for improvement.

Here is my sales pitch:
Get found by more customers for 1 low price.
We will create you a Free lead generating website that will make your phone ring with customers! Exclusive leads where the customer calls you directly!
  • No Setup fee
  • No Contract
  • Money back guarantee!
Our price is $149 per month that will be automatically be billed until they cancel.

Our money back guarantee is if they decide to cancel within 90 days we will refund them every penny. It is a better then risk fee offer.

Here is what I do.
I create lead generation websites for specific contractor categories. Such as painter, pest control, plumbers...

I purchase their domain that will contain the money word as well. Such as www.lucas-painting.com (fake)

I purchase a call tracking number and install on site and use on all citations.

I will then build out a site that has specific landing pages for all of the services plus city they serve. My average client serves around 30 towns.
If the contractor has 8 services and serves 30 cities they will have 240 unique long tail keyword rich landing pages with a strong call to action.

Example pages:
exterior painting in Laurel, NY
Painting in Laurel, NY
Interior painting in Laurel, NY

exterior painting in Mattituck, NY
Painting in Mattituck, NY
Interior painting in Mattituck, NY...

The site will also have actual photos of their work, testimonials, scanned copy of their certificate of insurance... I need to have the end user trust who the contractor is and decide to call or request an estimate through the site.

Once the site is built. Usually takes 1 hour.
I also create a Bing and Google webmaster account and submit the site map to be indexed.

On page seo:
I have all the usual signals. H tags, 4-5% keyword density, internal links, keywords in the first and last sentence, Alt tags, local map...

Off page seo:
Citations:
After the page is built I hire my Fiverr guy to do 20 local citations with the content I give him along with photos. I hire him for the next 2 months as well to get a total of 60+ citations with the correct NAP.
Backlinks:
I create profiles in a few industry specific forums and use my keywords in the anchor text.
Google & Bing Places:
I create a Google and Bing places account and optimize for my money words and link the places to the website.

Ranking results:
I usually get a majority of my landing pages on page 1 of Google, Yahoo and Bing with in the first 2 months.
The Google places 7 pack usually gets listed in their home town within 45+ days and by 90 days they are showing up in some surrounding towns in the 7 pack.

When a customer calls them a whisper message will let them know the call came from us. These calls will also be recorded.
I don't guarantee how many calls they will get. My guarantee is I will give them their money back if they are not happy with the results.
We have NO contract so it is in our interest to make sure they see the value being generated with the calls they are getting.
I feel most contractors don't have the time or money to hire a web designer to create their own site and then HOPE it will manically show up on Google.
I am offering semi custom website that WILL be optimized and found because I don't have a contract and need to continuously show them the value of the calls. I am also charging a low enough amount per month where most any contractor can afford it and not have to come up with a $1000 at one time.

Over 50% of all contractor's DON'T have a website.

So far I have only about 10 customers. I am looking at doing some PPC and postcard mailings to build up my accounts once I get all the bugs figured out.

Thanks again in advance for your comments.

  • Instead of finding the client then building the site.... why not build the site and get the clients? If you are building a site such as lucas painting... what happens when lucas painting says they no longer want the service?

If you went with something like Mattituck painting.com then you could flip to a new client quickly.

Your sales take on a new dynamic as well. you will have real numbers. "this site on avergge is producing 5 leads a week" or what ever the number. there is now a known result vs an unknown just starting concept.

    Hope that Helps!

    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • How are you cranking out - as an example - 240 landing pages in an hour? What exactly is on those pages that you can produce them so quickly?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • I created a plugin that spins the content and does insertions for the cities. I works pretty good.

  • Tarpontim,

I would be picky about the types of contractors you work with. Go with contractors who already understand the value of marketing and are already paying for leads - not the guy who is just working for weekend beer money. If you do the latter, you will eventually be refunding the money and they will have got some free customers.

I would do a contract that at least spells out what a lead is and where it's coming from. I put up a simple lead generation agreement here someone. Look at my past posts and you'll likely find it.

"50% of all contractors not having a website" - That doesn't mean squat. Are you talking about LEGIT contractors or mom/pop beergut Billys? There's probably a reason why those 50% of contractors don't have websites.

Trust me, don't waste your time chasing down garbage. Snipe the people already paying for leads from other lead services.

    Good Luck.
  • Yes. Finding contractors that really want to grow and answer their phone is a challenge.
Does anyone know of a way to find a list of contractors that are currently buying leads from companies like Home Advisor or Thumb Tack?
These contractors definitely will be the type I want to offer my services to.
  • I think painters that are showing up in Google ads will also be interested.
Does anyone know how much on average a painter would be paying per click (PPC) and how many clicks they they need to get a call. I am guessing the number is between $45 - $65 per call.
  • The flat fee leading model is counter active to lead generation, especially if you are not charging very much a month.

With the flat fee leasing model, the only way to increase revenue is to keep adding MORE sites that get leased a month. If you can get a client to lease your site, it nets them 3 leads a month and you continue to get cheques from the client with no complaints....then that is a success and you build out as many as you can...

The problem with the flat leasing model is when the client is not happy, expectations differ, lead quality is bad and lead amount is not enough. Now your fixed profits are being quickly eaten into by making the client happy, working with them to educate them on expectations, increasing lead quality and getting more leads....OR you just drop the client in search of someone that will be happy with the "Product" you are selling.

Which is where many people in this business model make the mistake. In the leasing model, your "Product" that you are selling is not the leads but the Property. If that property includes a ball park range of leads, then that is part of the product...BUT you have to have to be able to produce THAT PRODUCT over and over again as if it were on an assemble line. So if your sales funnel states that the client gets a website with around 5-10 leads a month for X amount. You should be able to crank out websites that generate 5-10 leads a month with very little difficulty and the cost of that product should be recouped by the 3rd to 4th month with the rest being profit. When I state, "very little difficulty"...I do not mean the time, effort or cost it takes to produce these products. I mean you should not have to re-learn things every time you make one and you should not have to try and "figure things out". That should all be taken care of before hand like the development of any product on the market.

The nasty side of the leasing model is that you have a Cap or Ceiling on how much effort you make for each client. That Cap or Ceiling is hit when you deliver the product and it is a working product..meaning it delivers on what the client expects and that expectation is "set in stone". Once that cap or ceiling is hit, that client gets put in the wait for them to phone us and check in every so often on if the product is delivering. This is so that your business hours can be spend creating more products for more clients because as I said in the beginning, the only way to make money with the leasing model is to continually be leasing more and more products.

Too many people get into the leasing model expecting to Help the client, Get the client a ton of leads, Do more then their expectations, etc etc...which is false mentality. Pay Per Lead is about those types of things because you are much more invested in doing more for each client. Leasing you should only be invested up until the product is delivered and after that, be happy when you are cashing their cheques.
