Do I need a landing page that is customized individually to any affiliate product I promote? How should that landing page look alike? I'm really confused about this...

email links to landing page -> Landing page sells -> Checkout page gets their $ -> Thank you page for tracking.

Very basic at its core but it gets complicated quickly

how can the landing page sell? It's not supposed to...it's the merchant page that sells....and why do I need tracking if it's already done by the affiliate network?

I suggest you use a Landing page and collect emails. That way you can send 3-4 follow up emails and promote your product / offer.

....theoretically I Understand this scheme. But how would that kind of landing page look like if you're only doing ppc without having a Product-related website?

The landing page IS supposed to sell. Whatever that page is. That's its purpose.

People around here use the term "landing page" to mean a page they create, usually to send visitors to the merchant page. But every page on the Internet is a landing page. It's where you land after clicking a previous link which could be an organic listing on a search engine, a sponsored link or an email link.

          So Kyle's flowchart is really:

links (from organic listing, PPC, email, any other sort of link) -> Landing page with its sale message (yours or merchant's) -> Checkout page gets their $ -> Thank you page for tracking

Tracking is essential for PPC. To efficiently improve your campaign, best to know which keywords and ads generated the conversion. Good to know from where traffic came from: if just one source, no problem but once you have many, it may be a problem. In short, you need data to be able to weed out or improve poor traffic sources.

I would concentrate on building a list with a landing page related to the offer. Provide a lead magnet of some sort in the form of a video, download, information of some sort, something of value then promote the product after a few value emails.
