Now that Prosper202 isn't free

A few months ago I downloaded Prosper202 free, but didn't get around to using PPC much. Now, I've returned, and I want to get a PPC campaign setup, but now I've discovered that Prosper202 isn't free anymore, and I only have a small budget.

Are there any other free tracking tools out there?

  • Be careful of where you download older versions of Prosper202 from.

Since the source code isn't encrypted, anyone can modify it in harmful ways, zip it up and offer it for download.

Eg, they could make it so your traffic gets redirected to their affiliate linked etc.

I highly recommend you review the code before using any version that didn't come directly from our servers.

      Nana,
You sold your word for money. no one will ever going to believe you. one thing that made us all choose prosper was because it was free and open source. You promised it will always be free! that's what made you grow. you have no problem with that don't you? as long as you are counting your $$$$ anything goes.

      • I get it, if I were in your shoes, I'd be upset too. Having to pay for something that use to be free, doesn't feel good.

But once you fully understand the reason behind the move, you too will agree there's no greedy, shady or dishonorable motive behind my actions to eliminate the free self hosted version of Prosper202 and switch to a paid saas model

First here are some of the problems you've probably experienced with the free self hosted model and how we've made it better with our changes

        1. Terrible user on-boarding and setup experience.
The majority of marketer are not technical. Having to install and mange Prosper202 doesn't do anything to help you get your main tasks and objects done. Some of our biggest support issues came from the fact that people had no idea how to install it and also certain hosting companies were not compatible with Prosper202 and causes way more frustration than was needed.

We solve this by eliminating the need for installation and technical server knowledge.

We now fully manage and host Prosper202 in our optimized cloud environment. Unlike other hosted solutions we don't change per click, so it's one flat rate even if you send 1 million clicks this month and 10 million clicks next month.

The idea of open source is great, but we found only a handful of users even look at the code and an even smaller subset have modified it in any way.

        2. Poor long term experience
With all our frequent bug fixes, performance improvements most users are still not seeing them because they don't even know how to upgrade the software to the latest version let alone optimize databases for performance.

You'd be shocked at how many people grumble and complain about problem x, y,z or that Prosper202 is slow etc only to find out we fixed the issue over a year ago but they haven't upgraded. For example, check your Prosper202 version, and let me know if you are on version 1.9.30 or not. Because if you are free version user, that was the most recent free version. Paid users are on 1.9.37.

All this causes bad reviews and sentiment about the software. The end result is that people end up switching to other solutions when all that was needed was an upgrade.

By switching to the saas model, there are no upgrades anymore. You always have the latest version at all times. Additionally we optimize and manage the database to ensure it remains fast and zippy at all times. Most people don't realize databases need active tuning, management and optimization to remain fast and responsive.

        3. No support
If you search this forum and other forums on the web, you'll see that people get stuck a lot. Sometimes spending days trying to figure out something that can me resolved in a few minutes if you were to talk to someone on our team. For 2-3 year we've had the live chat widget in the software to provide support in real time. But as more users have downloaded the software, it's reached a point where we are unable to support users for free anymore. Most people who need help would get a huge roi paying us for support, but choose not to because the whole paying for support idea is hard to rationalize when the software was free to download.

With the new model, support is included into your subscription. You can ask as many questions as you need to get up and running and 99.999% of the time you will get an answer directly from me. I've been marketing for over 17 years so there's very little I can't help you with very quickly and most of the time you will get more insight that you thought you needed because I can give you answers you need but didn't even know you had to ask.

        4. Limited ability to innovate
The restrictions that come with building self-hosted are incredible. Everything we do has to be done in a way to enable non technical people to install and manage the software. This has prevented us from making use of a lot of the new technology available for innovating and building the next iteration of our ClickServer. For example, we are doing a lot of work into automation with machine learning and AI. After months of work and research, we see there's no easy way to build that into a fully self-hosted platform. So we've invested a ton of R&D and development into a whole backend server infrastructure to make this possible. We've only scratched the surface of where we need to be. I project we have at least a million dollars worth of development work ahead of us. We are not looking for VC funding, so the next best way to reach our funding goals is with customer based funding.

But If I'm to wait on donations from Prosper202 users, it's going to take 533 years to reach our funding goals.

"Ain't nobody got time for that!"

So now Prosper202 is a paid SaaS service, with no free versions available for download directly from us.

So yes one thing you can rightly accuse me of is that I've taken away a tool that used to be free.

But, as you've seen, what you get in its place is something that's multiple times better at getting you to your real end goal of financial freedom using the affiliate marketing model.

Prosper202 now continues to get better at an even faster pace because 100% of the profits from paid customers is being put right back into technology that will soon enable you to get 80% of your current results with 20% of the effort. Allowing you to spend more time with you family instead of manually tweaking and messing with stuff an AI bot can do for you.

I agree with your logic but you probably should have altered the name of the product like ProsperPRO or something similar to let people know it's a hosted solution and that it's got more horsepower etc. and therefore could not rightly be considered to be at all like the free version.

It probably would have saved you a lot of trouble as people more readily accept that approach to releasing a paid version. It's all psychological -- which is how great marketing works.

If you don't respect the psychology of creating the appearance of taking away something from loyal supporters as opposed to adding another paid dimension of participation. Probably you considered that when you made the decisions you did but perhaps still worth remembering whether or not it was worth taking all the heat.

A change was made recently so the older version of Prosper202 that is free doesn't work anymore. It keeps re-directing to the upgrade screen.

What version of Prosper202 were the gigs on Fiverr?

I wouldn't trust Prosper paid version as well. If they clearly said at the beginning Prosper202 will always be free and now they are shutting down the free versions - brutally shutting them down, you have to upgrade in order to keep the free version running with all your precious stats, so they probably always change the poisoned customer price whenever they need funds. I bet that if now it costs 200$ per year "on sale" after 1 year it will cost 400$ "on sale" and if they need more money in between they would probably find a way to milk their customers.

Well, whatever whoever says. Prosper202 is still free and a good tracker. If not from fiverr then you will find it on youtube.

How? The free version of Prosper202 no longer works. Its automatically redirects you to the upgrade screen.

You just have to remove the code that let's them (prosper202) control this. Just got a new install yesterday.
