Targeting right Facebook audience for website/e-commerce agency

Hi,
I build websites and online stores for a living (from design to fully working and seo optimized sites with WordPress and OpenCart), and I want to find a way to advertise my small agency in Facebook using FB ads.

The problem is simple - how to find the right audience? English in my country is not main language, so it does not offer me much interests for an audience. Targeting online business as an interest is too broad. Using WordPress or OpenCart keywords are also a bad idea, because most of the users that know the platforms don't need help anyway.

How would you look for an audience for such a niche in Facebook?

Thanks!

    Hi wpresser,

You need a marketing strategy that fits your goals, the channel you are targeting, as well as the audience.

Facebook is a social network, so you need to use a strategy that employs social elements.

In other words, to be successful on Facebook it generally helps to be social. Your marketing strategy should incorporate social elements like creating and curating relevant content that is worthy of posting, sharing, commenting and liking within the viewpoint of your targeted audience. This is in addition to your promotional content.

If your page is 100% promotional it may not go over very well on Facebook, though there have been a few exceptions. Generally speaking you are going to have better success by going social first and then market to an audience that already knows, likes, and trusts you.

As a general rule, your cost to acquire a customer goes way down when your promotions are targeting an audience that generally knows, likes and trusts you, sometimes called a hot audience. Not quite as good is to target a warm audience, of people that already know who you are, they will be less receptive but with a multi-touch approach you can usually do well.

The toughest approach to make work on a social platform is to target a cold audience that has never heard of you for a direct marketing campaign. It's not impossible to make that work, but you should expect to have a much higher CPA.

My advice would be to develop a following of at least 50 people or more on your Facebook page before posting any promotional offers. Then use that small base to attract more like minded people with a multi-step marketing campaign. Keep the ratio of promotional to non-promotional content very low until you have built up an audience of at least 1000, then you can get a bit more aggressive with targeting lookalike audiences.

Naturally, you will need to test various types of content, as well as various value propositions within your promotional posts to discover which type your audience responds most favorably to. And, you will need to engage with your audience at every opportunity to get best results.

    HTH,

Ask yourself who are the public figures in the niche you're trying to target ?

What magazine and brands do people in your niche interested in ?

What tool/product related to the niche you're trying to target ?
What websites/blogs do people in your niche visit always ?

    Do research and find out.

Then it'll become easier for you to target your audience with Facebook Ads.

Is it possible to use broad tags like " create website ", " online store ", " eShop " etc ? If yes, give it a try. Most users who are interested in these ventures might know English as well. If you are not confident about that, run more than one campaign. As far as I know, Facebook allows different language ads for the same keyword per user.

Your optimal content plan should contain different types of posts according to what they prefer: are these funny videos, motivational quotes, polls or educational blog posts/infographics?

Your social media goal is to generate traffic, leads and sales from social, but never forget about relationships you build there. Robust content is definitely not a reason for them to follow you, so spend some time and create a well profound content plan. This is important if you're setting up a social media calendar for small business, yourself, or a larger brand. It's one thing to schedule posts. You have to be present to engage with your audience.

Inorder for you to look for an audience, you need to look at your ad so that you will be able to specifiy your target audience clearly and practically. Think of the interested viewers that will love your ad and you need to plan ahead for a proper engagement.

Hello! Definitely finding the good business oriented audience in FB is very hard. Interest targeting in FB is very expensive because FB is using 3rd party service to categorize the groups and interests. But it is worth trying anyway. Another thing you can do is advertise locally in the most famous websites, magazines, radio stations in your home country. AdWords is another digital channel worth trying.

  • Hello,

I have read all replies of this thread and really found some good suggestions.

I want to add my opinion in this regard. Please try to ads trough facebook. Suppose you want to sell computer related products, then target a audience of 18-40 ages.Facebook will post on other people's wall suggested post or suggested video. If you invest some money with proper keywords, you will surely catch eye of your targeted audience. Important thing is , you need to have real people ids with regular activities.

    Hey,

When you start promoting content on Facebook, The Facebook will ask you it self about where do you want to share this content, and what are the demographics of the targeted audience ? so there you will see all the answers because its not that hard.

I hope it clears the question
