Google's search ad spend in the US increased by 17% YoY in Q1 2024. Click growth, however, slowed down with a 4% YoY rate (8% in Q4 2023).

Chime in.

It'll be different based on many factors I guess.

Having two companies to manage, we decided to move away from Google AdWords because the costs were just too high. Instead, we've shifted our marketing efforts to various social media platforms. Not only are these social media channels proving to be just as effective, but they're also saving us money--around a quarter of what we used to spend with Google. Plus, the engaging nature of social media has helped us connect with our audience in a more personal way. I don't know why we didn't think of it sooner, could have saved ourselves a lot of money.

Surely it depends on what you're advertising though? In my industry, Facebook is far less effective in comparison to Google.

Could this be the reason why the conversion rate in 2024 is lower compared to 2023? The slowdown in click growth might be impacting overall performance, leading to a decrease in conversions despite higher ad spend. It will be interesting to see if advertisers adjust their strategies to improve this
