Yes they are still effective. It does depend on which social media platform you are on. Facebook is not good for using hashtags. Twitter and Instagram are great for using hashtags.

We used to have a great resource at BTP (Brisbane Technology Park) where you could get free assistance. It was a Government funded organisation that took you several steps of the way...

The problem is you need to meet various criteria in each country...

It's probably best to speak with a (patent) lawyer, not an internet marketing forum. Have you gotten a provisional patent on your idea? Is it unique?

I think buying some likes for a FB or IG page isn't a bad move to get started. The social proof will help as a building block to build a real following. On IG, it is a little bit more complicated...

First, you have an idea.... Ideas cannot be given any "legal protection."

Second, if you hire an App Developer... You can make him or her sign an NDA and a non-compete. Neither are worth anything...

Most hashtags won't make a difference however the others are right that sometimes if you use the "right" ones it can help boost you. Knowing which are the right ones is the challenge.

Sometimes the WEIRDEST additions to a campaign can boost engagement/conversion rates. Hashtags are simply another split test for anyone curious to use them. Your only sure bet is to test yourself....
