Is PHP your favorite language? If so, is it your first?

I love PHP because its structured well, and was easy for me to learn. I had previously tried to learn C++, but gave up several times. I am finally starting back with C++ because PHP is just so slow. But PHP is a fantastic starter language.

PHP was not my first. It is my favorite. Actionscript was my first. Working on Java, so far I hate everything about Java. I have been talking to a few people about Ruby on Rails. I may look into that one.

PHP was not my first, nor is it my favorite.

I started off with BASIC and C++ which were the only two languages available at my high school.

I currently use Java most often (likely because it's what I use at work).

PHP IS GOOD BUT HTML LASTS FOREVER HE HE HE......but php is best for designing pages, forms easily whioch takes less time and provides more output in which today's generation believe.

I love PHP. It's not that hard to learn, yet it's really powerful. I also love how it can use OOP and regular. It was my first (If HTML and CSS don't count), but is not the only one I know.

BBC BASIC was my first language ever.
Anyone ever remember Forth language ?
Cobol, now that was one serious anal language.
I am currently using Actionscript because it suits my needs, but my favourite is Pascal / Delphi

I started with Applesoft BASIC, then Fortran. Also C, C++, and Visual Basic.

Then of course PHP, which I started using most recently.

Now I wouldn't say PHP is the best of languages, but I use it more than anything else. I like the syntax of it, many other people speak PHP, and there's a lot of great projects already built on PHP. I don't have many reasons not to use PHP.

This is the best guide to object oriented programming I have read. It's about Ruby, but you ending knowing object orientated programming! I too started with PHP a few years ago and I remember the OP Damien gave me an awesome answer to one of my early questions on PHP, about 4 years ago I think!

I like PHP. PHP is Hypertext Preprocessor, is a scripting language used for web development. PHP is a widely-used open source general-purpose scripting language.

I started out with VBScript and classic ASP (Active Server Pages). After that I moved over to .NET and did C#/ASP.NET for a few years. I got extremely sick and tired of Windows and .NET and I was like "**** it, there must be something better".

I ordered a Mac, dropped Windows and .NET entirely and switched over to PHP, Ruby/Rails, Java and Python. I mainly develop web apps in Ruby/JRuby on Rails (best web framework I've used so far) and when I do content heavy sites I do stuff with WordPress and custom plugins/themes in PHP.

I almost hate PHP as much as .NET - it's an extremely ****ty language. Try Ruby on Rails or Python + Django and then you'll realize. PHP isn't truly OOP yet and all the ugly function calls and poor debugging just bugs me out. If it weren't for WordPress I would never ever touch PHP.

I'm slowly picking up Objective-C as well. Not really fond of the language so far, but I guess it'll grow on me eventually

I have been a professional developer for over 15 years and worked with lots of different languages, started with C/C++ and assembly language.

I've done a fair amount of PHP in the past, and a lot of .NET stuff (C#) in the last 10 or so years. A little Java here and there.

I am a big fan of .NET. It is definitely flexible and fast, just take a look at highscalability.com/plentyoffish-architecture

PHP has tons of free code, but it is a very ugly language. It is easy to pick up, but most of the code out there is really bad. PHP lets you write bad code very easily.

Personally I like Ruby on Rails much better than PHP and have done a few projects with it that are currently live. It does have some performance issues under high volume (as does PHP) without caching.

PHP is good enough for most things and easier to learn without any development experience. You can just hack things together without really knowing what you are doing.

First decide your database to be coding with PHP language and start writing code in PHP for hello world program, in coding you connect your database with PHP application and fetch data from database and display all that data in PHP application.

No, I much prefer Perl, though PHP is great for quick scripts and some of the smaller scale stuff. The support documentation is pretty good too

coming from a desktop app development background asp.net in c# just seemed like the logical choice to me, didnt think it was a valid option to re-learn an entirely new language so its my favourite by a long shot.
i tried learning php for a brief period but didnt like it, to me it just seemed a messy language with no real structure so i gave it the flick pretty quickly.
these days im learning more java which aint much different to c# imo so i dont forsee it being a big learning curve really

My favourite language is the one that suit my needs and PHP does that job. It has easy learning curve, every hosting in the world support it and its scalable too (if you do it right)...what else can you ask?

Java is the first language that I used at work and C/C++ is the first one that I learned. But my favorite is PHP, because it's simple to use. Wordpress, which is a popular website platform being used by most of small businesses now is written in PHP too.

I started out with C/C++. And I tried these PLs as well; VB6, VB.NET, and Java. Then, after all of that I came across PHP and other scripting languages that goes well with it such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and Ajax. So far, I'm loving PHP!

I in no way think that PHP is the "best" programming language. In my opinion there is no "best."

It's all about what you need to get done and the skill of the person at the keyboard.

That being said, PHP is indeed easy to learn. As far as programming goes.

I started with Basic, after that Pascal -> Delphi -> Perl and only after that PHP

Now I still use PHP and ... yes, for me it's the best for web development (despite the fact that I work on C# too)

PHP is not my first programming language.
My first language is pascal and c++. Yeah i know it's very old.
Then i tried a lot of other languages such as C#, ASP.Net, Java, Ruby (and rails), Phyton, Groovy and Grails, including PHP.
All the programming languages is good and i can use it.
But my best and favorite one is PHP, because it is fast and easy to deploy.
But any programming language is good.
