Wants copy of his site.

I have a website client that is on my bluehost hosting account, they want to open their own bluehost account and host the website themselves. This client just wants me to create a file of his website, put it on usb and give it to him, he will handle the rest himself. Not sure if this is a good option or not, any advice would be appreciated.

I have offered to make the switch for him but he declined. Since his sites are now with Bluehost under my account, wouldn't it be simple to just call BH and get them to walk me through the transfer to his new personal BH account?

Thanks

Just get Xcloner and install it. It will package up the site and allow an install of a clone of the site just about anywhere (linux only).

XCloner - Website Backup and Restore | Professional Backup application, Joomla backup extension, Wordpress backup plugin

If it's a WordPress site, it is available as a WordPress plugin from the depository WordPress › XCloner - Backup and Restore « WordPress Plugins

Most hosting companies will move the site for free for the first 30 days for a brand new account, but if not offered or wanted by client there several cloning scripts you can use to make this transfer as painless as possible. As above xcloner (never used) or backupbuddy as that's what I use. There many more cloners out there just Google it.

I agree with topnichewebsites you should have the host move it, likely for free.
If the client really insists on doing it via USB, then FIRST make them sign a waiver and/or acceptance of the site AS-IS since you have lost control over the proper install and initial testing.
    Then...
Dump or backup the database, FTP (or SFTP) to the server and download all the files on the server.
Create a folder, zip up the server files, and include the .sql database dump, then give it to the client AFTER they sign off on it.
No sign-off, then no "self install", you'll be asking for headaches when they screw up the install.

I've had many clients in the past try to do this, and the chance of an issue is very large.
You don't want to be responsible for a client not installing correctly then blaming you for their mistake.

Whats the problem, if thats what the client wants then do it. If they mess it up then you can charge a hefty fee to fix it.
As David V says get them to sign a waiver or something.

Thanks for the info and advice. I have already advised him that he has to sign a waiver. Just waiting to hear back.

I am offering to help this client but they don't want to provide me with the login details of their Godaddy account. Is there any way that I can transfer the site without having access to his new host?

Godaddy is saying that I can transfer the site using filezilla, without having to acsess his new host.

        Thanks

Why are you still pushing your help onto this client? Clearly, they don't want it.

You did the nice thing and offered. Just put the site on a USB and hand it over at this point. Forget about the waiver, it is worthless. Just keep a copy of the backup yourself until it has been transferred successfully, then move on with your life.

I'd have to agree with Jack Gordon at this point, this is a pretty uncooperative client, give them the site and then put them on the "your fired" list.
