Query about page authority

Hello SEO experts,

I would like to know the important element between page authority and page rank. Which one is more important? Can I trust more a site having high page authority even if the same page has page rank 0. Or should I try to consider both as important?

Thanks,
Denor

They are just metrics trying to evaluate the value of a page/url. PR is a Google metric, but public data on PR has not been updated in quite some time. A site showing PR 0 can actually be much higher, while a PR 4 can actually now be a PR 1 and so on. PR is updated in real time by Google, but they only release updated info every so often.

Page authority is a Moz metric that tries to do something similar. There is still much debate over which metric is better. I personally still value PR, but I do take into account other metrics, including PA, DA and trust. The other metrics used by third party backlink counters like Moz and MajesticSEO are updated more often and provide more accurate ratings in real time.

It is probably best to use some combination of the metrics and be sure to check out the actual backlinks as the metrics can be manipulated with spammy link building.

It depends on the context. Is your question in regards to a new site you are trying to rank for? A site you are wanting to procure for establishing links to help increase your money site ? PR is no longer being update and thus not a relevant factor, although may serve as a historical marker, but only in relation to historical relevance. You need to be look at DA (domain authority), TF/CF (trust and citation factor).

I say focus on pagerank when it's fresh (i.e. recently updated). It hasn't been updated in a long time so ignore pagerank for now. PA is MOZ's proprietary metric and it's fairly accurate so you can use it in place of pagerank.

However, you should compare the PA of a page with it's Ahrefs rank and citation flow/trust flow before judging it's authority.

Focusing on the pagerank is the best option. Link juice from high pr source is a positive sign for the betterment of your website.

    1. A link metric is only as good as the crawler feed it data. MOZ'es crawler is a joke.

    2. A link metric is only as good as the algorithm used to process it. MOZ'es is easily manipulated, particularly Page Authority - which is the most easy to completely manipulate through pure linkspam and little else.

Fresh PageRank is best, but you may never see it again. If you are stuck using MOZ metrics, strongly consider DA as it takes many individual (and yet still poorly scored) metrics into consideration with MOZRank being a good second option.

I agree that page rank is important after a recent update. Page authority is something that is also super important. When I am looking for domains in my network I always want to find domains that have high PR, High PA/DA and make sure they have never been spammed in the past.
