Effective SEO Links from Related News Articles

Hey Warriors, Curtis here again.
I read a great idea the other day and I want to gather some ideas on how we can best implement this strategy to make every one benefit from this thread.
Basically you find the top news stories related to your website and content. You than create a meaningful comment that relates directly to the topic AND adds some value to the reader PLUS putting a solid backlink into the comment for SEO purposes.
I know this is nothing new and crazy but lets discuss how to make this more effective.
1. How do you find the most relevant, up to date news articles for your niche market? In addition which news articles are going to provide the most effective backlinks?
2. How do you prevent your comment from being deleted and come off as not "spammy."
3. Maybe this is not good for SEO as it would be providing direct traffic to your website? Or maybe it is?
I have been really searching for articles that relate to healthy brain aging and Alzheimer's disease / Dementia advancements.

You would think that with so many people out there getting older and the baby boomer generation really climbing up the ladder (silver tsunami) that my product / website would be getting better traction.
