Local SEO all about citations?

Hi,

When I am typing a service and a location into Google, for example... 'Dentist in Manchester'. What SEO is taken into account, for organic seo?

      How many are we talking? I did some citation work not long ago, added about 30 and I haven't seen a difference in ranking for the local area.

    Good question, id also be interested to find out.

    My take on it is: local citations can boost a non-competitive business, but anything half competitive (emergency dentists etc., web designers) will need something more than local citations to give them a boost.

    try to do as many local citations for boost in ranking. and there should not be NAP difference.

    It's not all about citations if it were don't you think all these people offering cheap citations would just simply be charging for ranking? They don't because at the end of the month they have to answer when the listing barely improves or if at all. I know I do over 20 things consistently every month to get my listings to rank. Then once I have picked the easy to reach fruit I start going after the smaller less important factors.
