Desktop VS Mobile SEO?

I'm totally new to this and have a question.

So I have read that mobile devices will out pace desktop in 2015.

So I assume having a mobile friendly version of some type will become a must.

There are sites that have a dedicated mobile version Vs responsive for both.

My thinking is that a dedicated mobile version is better because you can use
the feature available to mobile devices, tap to call, tap to txt, etc, etc...

So when a site has a dedicated mobile site, how does this relate to what you
should be doing for seo and if mobile search out paces desktop search, what then?

    Hi DIABL0,

first of all, a responsive Website is recommended (rather than having 2 seperate sites like m.domain.x).

There is a video from google search team comparing all different options. Short story: Responsive Layout is recommended as best solution.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for.

I do see that google recommends responsive, but they also say...

Google does not favor any particular URL format as long as the page(s) and all page assets are accessible to all Googlebot user-agents.

It appears that as long as you use rel=”alternate” and rel=”canonical” to link desktop version page to mobile version page and vice vera, you should be fine with with a dedicated mobile site, as they say they treat the linked pages as one. Just if you have a mobile page and no desktop version, then the mobile page is on it's own and has to be seo separately.

Anyone know of anymore info regarding this? As I'm sure I will probably have some questions. However, I can just try googling it.

A dedicated mobile site will augment your workload because you will have to SEO two sites instead of one (if using responsive layout).

Wondering what would happen if mobile surpasses desktop? Wait until then. I don't see that happening in 2015. And, even if it does, the search results are the same both on mobile and desktop so I don't see how this can affect search traffic to sites.

You really should drop the SEO from your username or maybe change to SEO Power 2000 as your SEO advice is awful!

Google provide different results depending on device used. If you are going to pretend to be an SEO expert at least do some research so it's accurate: https://www.google.com/search?q=Sear...utf-8&oe=utf-8

To the OP it's generally better to go for a responsive design rather than separate mobile site. Depending on how you organise a separate mobile site could mean double the SEO effort on builidng links, maintance etc... A responsive layout it's one site that adapts to the device through media queries. As a WordPress SEO theme developer I had to upgrade to a mobile responsive design a while back, it's a much better solution after it's setup (less work).

    Hi DIABL0 again,

nice that you found my post helpful!

If you explain me your actual extended question from last post:
Anyone know of anymore info regarding this? As I'm sure I will probably have some questions. However, I can just try googling it.
Then I can try to deliver right answer again.

Trying to make you satisfied and to click the "thanks" button for me

Use responsive webpages with media queries in the CSS to scale/change content based on the screen size traffic is using.

Media queries is way easier than maintaining/ranking multiple URLs based on user device.
