I may need to make some small changes to one of my websites. Does that in anyway hurt my ranking in Google? Thank you.

No, unless you're deleting a lot of content.

Google likes to see sites that are "fresh" so changing things up a bit can be a good thing - it shows (to at least a small extent) that your site is not stagnant.

You probably won't notice any difference in your rankings by making a few small edits.

Depends on your SEO rating already - will it make a difference? Otherwise don't let google rule your world - it changes weekly lol

If we worry about every change we make, we will not get anything done. Depends how massive the change will be.

Comparing the cache with a live webpage.

Not that it has anything to do with ranking pages.

Matter of fact a static page is more likely to hold a SERP position compared to a constantly changing page that tends to bounce around the SERPs.

A redesign usually drops rankings for a short time and then if you did a good job they go up.

Basically redesign web may be creat no problem at first on SEO ranking. When Google are not able to accomplish your web site, it will not have the ability to index changes to it as well as may possibly decrease running it. You really should think about relocating your web site into a additional trusted hosting company.

If it is a small change, it wont affect. If you do changes in the content or description , it will surely affect your page ranking.

    Hello,
If you make small changes like; changing image or delete or edit few lines; doesn't affect your ranking, but if you delete a paragraph. These will affect your site ranking in Google. And if you make changes in meta tags, these will also affect ranking in Google.

It totally depends on if you are editing those elements, which are helping you rank. If so, then you will have to be very careful with the editing. You will have to make sure, that edited site still has all the factors that are helping you rank.

Of course, it may affect your ranking, for example, if you install new WP theme, and there are 5 links in footer.

Changes shouldn't affect your SEO, although I'm not really sure if changing the link structure is a good idea. But a redesign or some changes regarding the content won't hurt it.

Wow, a lot of replies to a guy who didn't even say what he means by "some small changes".

How on earth would any of us have any idea unless you tell us what you're planning? There's stuff in my "small changes" category that can definitely affect rankings. Most of technical on-page SEO is small changes!

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

Yes. No. Maybe. Depends on your definition of "small" and the type of changes you're going to make. For all I know, your site sucks and any change will improve your ranking.

I have changed the content (same niche), design, and even the framework (switched an html/css site to wordpress) of sites and have seen rankings either not change OR go up.

As long as it's all still the same niche...go for it.

Basically, just remove an image, change some spacing, and maybe clean up some coding.

Depends on the type of changes you're making. If you are doing things like changing url structure, internal linking structure, deleting content and so on, it could very well hurt your rankings if not done properly.

Small changes like adding content, media or design aspects shouldn't affect your site too much.
