Hey everyone! I am looking to recruit SEO experts into my company and I am trying to search for them in places like Upwork.com.. I posted a job posting, but I am a bit confused on how to interview them and select the best SEO expert from the several people who had applied for the job...

see, its quite simple. give them all an assignment.
ask them to rank your site on the first page of google for the keyword "weight loss"
and whoever succeeds in doing so, should be hired.

So even for that I should pay them to do so right? so for each person I am interviewing I should pay them? Or do they do it without getting a payment upfront? I think they will not do for free even if it is for interviewing purposes..please advise.. thanks

I'm not sure if upwork.com is suitable for that. SEO work should be done by professionals and if they are, I don't think that they will hunt for jobs at upwork.com. Upwork and fiverr are for people who are on low budget and need services that shouldn't be done by professionals, such as simple graphics design, short videos etc. I already asked similar question here:

    Hi,
The best way to choose someone is by track record and if they are brand new go by what they say and your exact expectations are wanting and outlining them perfectly. You can PM me here and I can help but most if not all SEO experts, professional charge considerably.

  • Check for reviews and price tag. If something looks to cheap then the service is probably cheap. Fiverr comes to mind here. Would you pay $5 for seo services? You get what you pay for!

depends what you expect out of your SEOs. Don't make them rank your site. Let's face it: for real stuff, that can take $$ and time, duh.

Have them jot down what their plan would be i nranking a certain site and a budget.

You can check the previous work along with their SEO process. Ask what kind of back linking they are using , whether they are using balck hat or white hat.

If they are using black hat then stay away from them as Google does not like black hat tactics for ranking and it is not a long-term solutions.

Black hat is like next shiny object, very easy to attract but ultimately you will lose your money in the long run also credibility from your customers as they will lose the ranking or their website may get deindexed also.

So, always go for white hat SEO service.

If you are interested for white hat SEO service with affordable price then you can contact me for that. We are offering white hat SEO service.

you don't know what to look for in an SEO or what questions to ask, probably the most effective way to find a good one is to do some searches on competitive phrases in a variety of niches. Then contact the websites that are ranking in the top 3 or top 5. Explain that you are not a competiton.

So you mean I should contact those business owners and ask them about SEO..But do you think they would give me details of their SEO experts who did this job for them?

I don`t think anyone who is sane will tell a stranger on the internet what are they doing to rank top 3 in SERPs.

For SEO service providers, you should check the technique they use for link building, especially the resources for promotion. Some providers may build up links by posting to their own blog networks or sending comments to low quality forums, etc. Such works may result in a temporarily higher rank, but will surely put your site under risk.

That all depends on specifically what you want to accomplish. Do you just want to rank well in search engines or are you looking for site optimization, social media marketing, content creation, etc.? Also, what's your budget?

The best advice I can give you is to find a firm that you can sit down with and discuss long-term marketing plans and have them layout actionable projects that will help you achieve them. If anyone promises you results, run away. No good marketing company can promise a certain ranking or number of page views & followers without resorting to "black hat" techniques.

    1. This SEO service provider has a nice website
    2. This company has hundreds of employees and is making millions, they must know what they're doing.
    3. Identify what you need for your page
    4. Get multiple consultations, but keep it secret
    5. Get case studies and references
    6. Make the firm tell you stories

I can't stand clients that do most of that list.

When I hear a client ask for case studies I just want to hit the delete button. Case studies in SEO are usually BS with no facts, reminds me of fake money claim screenshots on IM forums. WTH is a case study going to do to rank pages on Google SERPs? Nothing, it's going to do nothing!

Make up stories? Yea, there's your case studies [ugh].

What really pisses me off is when a client tracks me down (specifically me) without me advertising & then the client ask for some references. GTFO, don't come to me unsolicited & act like they're on the fence wasting my damn time.

I don't mind helping people but geez, some folks act like they don't have any common sense.

Invite them for a job interview and ask them about what they would do for your company. And also ask how they would get your company to a higher level with SEO.

    Ask them about
1 Their last projects (url, result).
2 Their Strategy (specially link building strategy)
3 Timeframe (who can guarantee to rank all keywords in 3-4 months dont recruit them)
    4 Deliverables (Reports etc)
There are many other ways. Oh In upwork you can also check their past clients feedback.

To get the best SEO experts, during interview just ask "How much time will you take to make the website to be listed in first page of SERP". If the answer is below 1-2 week then show the door and say "You may leave now!"
You can also ask whether they use any Black-Hat SEO techniques, if the answer is Yes >> Shoot the previous reply.

Anyone looking to hire an SEO consultant or company should definitely check at least three fairly current references to discuss how the SEO company helped them succeed.

Here are 10 essential questions to ask when considering prospective SEO consultants:
      1. May I have a list of current and past clients?
      2. How will you improve my search engine rankings?
      3. Do you adhere to search engines' webmaster guidelines?
      4. Can you guarantee my website will achieve a number-one ranking on Google, Bing and Yahoo?
      5. Are you experienced at improving local search results?
      6. Will you share with me all changes you make to my site?
      7. How do you measure the success of your SEO campaigns?
      8. How will we communicate and how often?
      9. What are your fees and payment terms?
      10. What happens when we part ways?

I have a similar question. I want to hire/contract an SEO company/person to provide ongoing (12 months or longer) SEO services for my new website.

Who is the best SEO provider on WF?

I recently built a new website. I have SEO experience but I don't have the time or desire to integrate SEO (especially ongoing backlinks/social media/etc.). I just want to hire someone to take care of this function for me. I don't want a plug-in or a one-shot wonder. I've owned/used GSA, SENuke, and associated services. I know there are a thousand options out there (software, services, etc.).

Who is the best SEO service provider on WF?

I would create an application page on your website and have applicants upload their resumes and portfolios which typically prove experience with ranking websites.
