I am wondering how many different variations of anchor text should I point to my home page ? Using the Google keyword tool I have many choices some being:air compressors, best air compressors, air compressor ratings, air compressor reviews, air compressor comparison etc etc etc.

What I would like to know is how many of these keyword combinations should I use anchor text to my home page and if you suggest only a few of these. How do I achieve rankings for all of these key word combinations?

    AFAIK it is best to use as many variations as possible if the link is toward the main page. Only to individual pages should you target specific keywords - the home page should be an all-inclusive recipient to air compressor subjects.

      Thanks for your response. I just see very successful sites such as Vacuum Cleaner Reviews and Ratings - Finding Best Vacuum Cleaners For You and many more only using a few similar variations. I also would like to learn how to rank well for all of the keywords whether it be my homepage or sub page.

        Hi Sarah,

        For best results you should limit the number of targeted keywords per page to just a few, and be sure that your important on-page elements support those same keywords. You can create a number of long tail keywords that use your targeted keyword as the root, but keep in mind that search engines will weight exact matches higher.

        You can create an unlimited number of pages that each target different keywords, don't focus exclusively on optimizing your home page. Each page on your website can be topped ranked for a different target keyword. The more top ranked pges, the more targeted traffic you will receive from the search engines.

    I'm doing one at a time. Once I get ranked where I want to be for my main keyword for that page I move on to the next one. I think if you spread it around too much with too many different phrases you'll never get as high as you want to be.
