Link Wheels - Do they still work?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of doing a link wheel on one of my sites.

I read a thread in WF itself that Google is tracking down on Link Wheels. Is that true? (Dammit I misplaced the thread and now I can't find it)

Are they still effective?

How do I do a link wheel with a single article? Spin it or just use the same article over and over again.

And how do I link to the articles?

I mean, do I just link to the other article somewhere randomly or do I embed the links inside the article?

Thanks,
Sumit.

Check out the free video in my signature file (or visit my link wheel site) and you'll see the different types of link wheels available, how to build them, etc.

    Hope it helps

Although we know that Google has some complicated systems for tracking systems such as link wheels we do not know exactly what they are. However, I think that it is safe to assume that as a "system" becomes used widely it will attract attention and if Google does not like it they will attempt to track it and penalize its use. Some people believe that this is happening with link wheels.

The answer is to use the principle of the link wheel but do something sufficiently different so that it is not seen as a link wheel. This will work for as long as Google likes backlinks and does not see whatever you do as a new system to crack down on. What is sufficiently different though is difficult.

It's a good strategy for link building. However, number of output links must be controlled.

Linkwheels are just a bunch of 2.0 properties and articles linked together. All of the properties link to your landing page, or a page you want to rank. It's used to be an extremely effective way of SEO until google caught on. Make one too obvious today and your site just may get sandboxed . For visualization with the "=>" symbolizing a link:

      First Squido=> blogger=> wordpress.com=> hubpages=> weebly=> livejournal=> Squidoo (same page as the first squidoo).
All pages link to your landing page.

I realize that's a horrible explanation if any-- just google linkwheel and you'll find a ton of stuff. Good luck!

Well described! However, I don't think link wheel or anything else will get your site sandbox unless you link to them!

If you don't want Google to catch your network, why don't you just build web 2.0 properties without linking them together?

I use web 2.0 properties and link to my site, doesn't really link each property together.

I took a class from Don and Jeremy, and building a linkwheel was one of the first things they went into. Jeremy stressed that you should NOT complete the circle by linking your last page (livejournal) back to your first page (squidoo). I don't remember if he told us why that was, but I do remember that the wheel should not be a complete circle. But all the spokes should link to your money page.

In my experience link wheels work now better than the same number of regular backlinks. They certainly don't multiply backlink power. I bought a large and complex link wheel and have seen little or no impact on SERPs for a medium competition keyword phrase.

In my opinion I believe it would just be a better use of time to get one way backlinks from all of the web 2.0 properties you can. I wouldn't want to spend time trying to build up the web 2.0 properties in my link wheel instead of just getting the one way links, so I don't even bother creating the wheel.

      But that's just my opinion.

do you link the web2.0 together? or just link to your money site?

Do you use the SAME KEYWORDS for each of the web2.0 properties or use different keywords for each of the web2.0 properties?

i use this tactic to raise my site's placement on google. first i'll tell you what I've done so far. and then i'll want your advices

      what I've done so far:
I've made 9 blogs from wordpress etc. i am posting an article a day for a month. all my articles are the same. this means when i posted an article on one of my blogs, i post the same on the others. i post different articles everyday. i write my articles. none of them is copy.

i use a method for linking. i give 7 links in my every article. 3 of them to my main site. and 1 of these 3 is like site . com/article and the others like site . com. other 3 of 7 to the next blog. 1 of these like blog2 . com/article and others like blog2 . com. and finally last one is to the blog itself. this means if i wrote this article on blog1 . com this link goes to blog1 . com/article

and i wrote 9 tags to my every article. all of them are the same all the time

i guess i am doing something wrong! my page was no.18 on google. now no.24
what should i do to fix this? what is wrong with my link wheel?

is this situation temporary or my site's position will decrease unless i give up writing?
