SEO Suggestion for Addiction Website

Hello Warriors.

I built a addiction help website a couple months ago.

The goal is to help people struggling with addiction find treatment. We have partnered with a call centre that will take the calls and have their phone number featured on the site.

I have had some success with paid media via google pay per call but am struggling on the SEO side.

I add a new blog post everyday, have back links from 10+ .edu sites, post on a twitter and facebook daily.

The site only ranks for our branded term and nothing else.

Any suggestions on best practices or what I can do to help grow this site organically?

Thanks!

You need better links. And lots of them.

EDU links do not hold any special value. Unless you contacted the educational institutions directly and got them to put your link up on a prominent page, the links are likely extremely weak.

Posting new content regularly is also not going to help you rank any better. Neither will posting to Twitter or Facebook.

you will do good with the EDU links if you check the domain via tools like AHREFs, SEM Rush, Majestic etc., Edu domains tend to be older and have more established value, but some are, indeed, very week, so do your due diligence before buying these links.

It is a waste of time to check those metrics in Ahrefs, Majestic, etc. Unless you are getting a link on a primary page of the website, how strong the domain is doesn't matter.

When someone is going after EDU links they are usually ending up with links on some student blog or profile page. It doesn't matter how strong the root domain is in those cases. That link is going to be weak AF. EDU links hold no special strength. They are no different than links from .com, .net, or .org sites.

        Thanks Mike.

So the idea is to get a backlink from a higher domain authority, on one of the main pages and not a blog profile page or one that has multiple links?

I have been using spyfu and it is a good tool to find competitors backlinks.

Any other suggestions on how to get quality backlinks?

I don't pay attention to domain authority. I pay attention to relevance.

One other tip... This has nothing to do with SEO.

Make sure you have all your legal bases covered. The FTC, media, and watchdog groups have turned their eye onto this market space and are watching it very closely.

We have the general legal basis covered. Once we drive more traffic to the page and build revenue I will re-invest in protecting the site from a legal perspective. At this point there really is nothing to protect. The site is simply a referral service for people looking for treatment. We do not make any guarantees or place people in facilities ourselves.

It is not 100% about links anymore. You still have to have great, well optimized content. All the links in the world pointing to a page that has very little practical value to people and that has very little content and/or no optimization is not going to help that page rank very high.

Also, you need to have patience. Gone, are the days where you can toss up a page in a competitive niche (which this surely is), point a bunch of backlinks at it and having it rank instantly. Count on it taking 6 months to a year or more.

Any tips on how to optimize content properly?

I know it is a long term play. Is it important to add new content daily? Or is 2-3 times a week ok? Or is this not important at all?

Contrary to the ill-advised opinion of many people here, the frequency that you publish things has absolutely nothing to do with SEO. The only time frequency MIGHT come into play is when you are reporting on news events that change rapidly.

Varying your anchor text with the different keywords you want to rank for while doing your link building may help. But then you need to be careful about the anchor keyword ratio so as not to overoptimize.

I would suggest you to use back-links from sites of high quality with PR above 60. Best Tools used to find such backlinks:
    Ahrefs, semrush, majestic, moz.
Also find where competition gets their back-links from using these tools.
