Microsoft: SEO is most important hard skill for marketers

Microsoft published a study which aims to identify the most important marketing trends this year. The study also has a section about marketing skills, and at the top of the list is SEO.



Based on a LinkedIn poll with 600 senior marketer respondents, Microsoft identified the following hard skills as most important:
  1. SEO
  2. Data analysis
  3. Copywriting
  4. Behavioural analysis
  5. Automation

Meanwhile, the top soft skills are:
  1. Creativity
  2. Humility
  3. Empathy
  4. Adaptability
  5. Transparency

    • Yes its true! SEO is soul for any website. Imagine a website that is not visible on SERPs. Although you may go for paid campaigns to get some leads but it is like human body on ventilator. If you are able to rank well, you will get visibility, clients and what not.
    • SEO is important to your sites' visibility. No, without it your site won't become obsolete. You'll just have to do a lot of other marketing.


      People can find your site from social media efforts from direct mail, from networking in person and on Linkedin, etc.

    • Depends on the competition, within a few weeks you should notice a difference in most cases.
    • It depends upon the topic or business for which you are going to do SEO. If the competition is low then the result will be shown after 3 months, but if the competition is tough then it takes time from 6 month to 1 year.

      SEO is going tough day by day due to tough competition between online marketers and too many websites.
    • It totally depends upon the competition of the keywords. You can rank on some keyword may be within 1 month and on the other hand, maybe, you need to work 1 year to rank on other keywords.

  • SEO is the most important thing in Digital marketing, Even for the internet marketing. Because you can even get your social media pages in search engine results also
  • There is no doubt that SEO has become tough nowadays. But still, it is the best rewarding method to get business through your website as you can get fruits of the quality SEO done by you for a longer period. So, just keep in mind to follow Google's guidelines so that you didn't get trapped in its penalty cycle.

  • Yes, I have been doing SEO since 2009. I have seen so many things in between 2009 and till today. SEO Skill is on top and without this none of business can grow online. Huge demand, but most of SEO's don't know how to start doing actual SEO. I have interviewed more than 100 SEO experts which they have above four years of experience, but all of them I got that following the old method. They really don't know how to start work on new website and old website. Thanks
  • I am an SEO person and I do feel SEO is one of the toughest jobs as because you need to have a different strategy every day. It is not something you can do repeatedly and that is what kicks!
  • For a digital marketer I don't think that SEO is the best skill to be successful, many marketers make a lot of money with a simple clickfunnels landing page and traffic from social media.

    But I think however that SEO is one of the most difficult things, because the real Google algorithm is not exactly what they want us to believe and furthermore changes very often...
