Simple as can be. Does it matter if you have a site like warrior-forum.com? Does something like that hurt ranking, help it, or have no effect whatsoever?

It doesn't hurt rankings. MOZ will hold it against you. People will forget the put the hyphen and end up on the site without the hyphen instead of on yours.

Its only hurt people as its not easy to remember site names with all the hyphens. Other than that no, they do not hurt your rankings.

    Hey buddy,
If you're trying to rank a hyphenated website, then you could be on 2 verge. Either you want to get benefit of an already established brand, or you want have a meaningful domain.
If you're trying to do the first thing, trying to get the benefit the name of an already established brand, then forget about it. You'll have to work from scratch and you'll rank very slowly even. This is a kind of phishing and you should avoid this.
And if you're having the domain with hyphan because you wanted to have a meaningful domain, and no any other very famous brand is existing online, then the scenario will be same as other website for you.

  • It may take to rank a hyphenated site. It gradually increases your site ranking. This process does not hearten your site's ranking.

How many hyphenated sites did you visited recently?

I would guess none. Because they are ugly and they shouldn't exist.

Like others said, people will remember the non-hyphenated site and end up somewhere else.

    Bottom line: Don't do it.

What do you mean ugly? The URL itself? I doubt many people stop to consider such precise aesthetics of a link before clicking it. A hyphen really isn't much of a deterrent.

Rather than an SEO issue, this is about marketing and branding. A hyphenated brand name is almost certainly going to be targeting the same market as a site having the same name without hyphens. You'll just end up spending time and advertising money promoting your competitor.

Not a fan of hyphenated domain names. I would register a different extension instead of picking a hyphenated dot com.

It doesn't really hurt your rankings, so there is no need to pay extreme attention to a matter like this.

Well I own several hyphenated domain names but that is because the words are frequently spelled with hyphens. They look pretty to me!

Even though I no longer have a site there, I used to rank on Google page one for my keywords with a domain that had two hyphens in it.

Using hyphens will not affect any of your site traffics or any other things. But it will be a huge loss as the end user will not be able to get it correctly and they will tend to use another site instead which will be easy to remember.

No, it doesn't hurt the rankings although it helps to rank your keywords on the search engine. But make sure your content needs to be very genuine.
