A new article on Search Engine Journal reports that even Etsy shops need SEO to be successful. Learn tips and best practices to help optimize your Etsy shop, product listings, tags, and more for search.

Does any of you guys use Etsy?

The author says, even if you're selling handmade crafts or rare vintage items, Etsy can be extremely competitive. It's filled with amazing products. So, how can you get noticed on the platform?

Etsy shops need SEO to be successful. Knowing how Etsy chooses which listings get shown first to buyers helps. When the platform finds listings that match a buyer's search, they look at a few different factors to determine how the listings should rank, such as:
  • Relevancy.
  • Listing quality score.
  • Recency.
  • Customer and market experience score.
  • Shipping price.
  • Translations and languages.
  • Shoppers' habits. (results for the same search won't be the same for every user).
  • With Etsy, Accurate keywords are important. Many sellers are creatives, and some might think it's best to showcase that creativity in their shop listings. However, remember that your keywords should reflect what buyers are actually searching for.</p>
  • It's also worth knowing that spamming the same keyword won't get you all the search places. Etsy will only show your listings a few times for one search. That means if you use the same keywords for multiple listings, most of them won't end up in a buyer's search results at all.
  • Taking full advantage of the tags available on your listing is also important. You get thirteen tags for each listing, which you can use to target thirteen different keyword phrases that describe your listing.

I have set up three shops on Etsy.

Etsy is a marketplace like any other.

In addition to the points you have mentioned,

Every seller and aspiring seller needs to
    • optimize their listings for keywords.
    • Use Good images that accurately represent what the customer is getting
    • You can upload ten images per product. Use up the image allocation
    • Be clear about what your customers are getting. If you sell digital products, let the customers know that nothing will be mailed to them in the post
    • Use Etsy Rank and Marmalead for Keyword Research and Listing optimization
    • Etsy has recently added a video functionality where you can upload a video to your listing. Etsy has indicated that video performs better than Images and text.
    • Etsy also had an advert program that sellers are opted into unless you opt out. Etsy advertises products from your store outside Etsy . You are only charged if a customer makes a purchase
