Local SEO for business with no physical location, what should I do?

Every client I've had in the past had a physical location for me to create GMB and local citation backlinks. This one is different.

My new client offers gun training / concealed carry classes and rents out a piece of land on class days. He wants to rank locally for these concealed carry classes. I am going to create landing pages for (keyword + city) but I was also hoping to get him in the GMB map pack as well.

My options sound like I can either
  1. Create a service area GMB business listing
  2. Use the business owners home as the GMB location.

What are the pros and cons from an SEO perspective choosing between the two above? Or, am I missing a #3rd solution?

    Why home not business?

This is the type of businesses people and Google expect to have a location where classes take place. So, give Google the business address.

If your client actually goes to his clients to train, just choose that option in GMB, and it will not show the address to the public.

wow DABK still helping people! you're amazing. I remember you helping me in 2017 when I started doing SEO.

The business owner doesnt want to use his home address as the location. It sounds like I'm forced to do service area GMB but how would I go about creating citations? Usually, an address is really important with citation building. I can imagine most citation sites wont even let me create a listing without an address.

Normal directories will not allow incomplete address.

        Private sites will.

Make friends with local business and get it done.

Explain to your client that there's a big disadvantage doing it the way they want it done.

This one's likely going to cost you in terms of stress and reputation.

Would you buy a bike that does not have a place for the chain?

A chess game that doesn't have the kings?

Well, not quite but in the same direction. You're going to have a harder time ranking their site. You should get paid more. So you can rank them anyway.

I would simply give a general location and say that due to
security reasons the exact location cannot be divulged and
that once people register they will be told exactly where to go.

and what exactly has that got to do with a GMB listing?

I will suggest you to provide the service address in GMB Listing. People who are looking for services always expect an exact services location. Also, create some local listings to boost the ranking.

You can use the owner's house as a location for the GMB, which will increase SEO effectiveness. But you are missing something in this strategy. It won't be enough to promote the product successfully. The likelihood that it will not get noticed is very high. That is because of the vast competition in the market, where everyone plays by his own rules. As far as I know, using different tools can help you beat the competition and make your way to the top of the rankings. I read about it on this site https://limitlessreferrals.info/seo-tools/. I hope you find this information helpful. I wish you the best of luck!
