Search Engine Journal reports that in order to make better use of the data offered by the "lastmod" element in XML sitemaps, Bing is updating its crawl scheduling.

For those in the know, this "lastmod" tag in XML sitemaps is critical for search engine indexing and crawling efficiency.

By favoring freshly updated content instead of outdated stuff, this will increase crawl efficiency.

On a limited basis, the enhancements have already started, and they should be fully implemented by June.

Will this update affect you? Chime in.

Search engine giant Bing recently announced changes to its web crawling system, aiming to improve efficiency. The updated crawl system is designed to give users access to the most up-to-date web content available. This revised system provides a more comprehensive and reliable indexing of websites for Bing's search engine. As well as featuring an improved algorithm, the revamped crawler will prioritize speed and accuracy over quantity when gathering information. These modifications are sure to benefit both website owners and searchers alike.

I think is a move in the right direction for Bing. After trailing behind Google for years, it is starting to improve relevancy.
I keep an active website so it will be of great benefit to me.
