Website Directories for backlinks?

Hello everyone. I was hoping that someone who has some knowledge on the subject of website directory submission could provide me with some input and maybe even a list of website directories where I could submit my site.

I remember reading on an SEO companies website somewhere that their main technique involved website directory submissions and social bookmarking.

I've done most of the other common backlinking methods. (i.e. profile backlinks, rss feeds, contributing to relevant forums with signature backlinks, blog commenting, and article submissions.)

My main focus until now has been profile backlinks but I'm starting to think that my link profile is getting too saturated with profile backlinks and I would like to diversify it...so anyone with a list of website directories or even just a couple could you post them here for me and other's looking for another way to backlink.

Hi Jacob, I think you are doing all the right things for backlinking. As far as web directories are concerned, although there are thousands of directories that exist but there are very few that I found effective. Here is a list of selective few that I like:

    Dmoz
    World Site Index
    Jayde
    WebtoolHub Web Directory
    Web World

Just make sure to link with authority sites.

Thanks Pluto, I appreciate your positive input.

The problem I have with linking to authority sites in my niche is that the majority of them are my competition. I've only got one website at this point...and I'm doing my best to make it an authority site. In total I think I could put between 60 and 70 pages on the site. I would prefer to call my site an online catalogue though...because all it is amazon style reviews on certain products in my niche. The reviews aren't really reviews, more or less they are just articles that point out the benefits of the product combined with a list of its features and some customer reviews. Since I don't own any of the products I'm reviewing I can't make any real reviews...and I think the catalogue approach works fairly well.

Anyway, thanks for the directories...I need as many different backlinks as I can get.

    Hello Jacob,

Directory submissions are a perfectly reasonable way to get some of your backlinks. I would not suggest submitting to hundreds of free, low quality directories.

There are many top quality directories like romow.com. Here is what I recommend to find the real strong directories:

Do a G search for "web directories" or "link directory". Take a look at organic listings in the first two pages and consider if it looks like a place that you would like to see your site listed on.
    Signature
HeDir.com ranks #1 for "human edited web directory"

Directories are good as part of a broad backlinking strategy. You can find plenty of free ones - although you should seek rhose that do NOT require reciprocal links
