A professional SE Optimizer must have knowledge in html ?

My question is that html knowledge is compulsory or not for a professional search engine optimizer? Please suggest me.

    IMO it *is* necessary for someone who does SEO to understand HTML (and vice versa).

      Another vote for yes. I do not think you need "build websites from scratch with your eyes closed" knowledge but I do think you need to be able to build a web page without using a wysiwyg editor and look through the source code of a page and know what is going on. Being able to use css is a big plus as well in my opinion.

      If someone told me they were an seo expert and did not know any html I would wonder how good they really could be.

    Especially if you ask for a professional seo you should or better must expect he's got good knowledge in html and evtl. more. To really understand how a spider like googlebot works you just need this knowledge. And I expect a real expert to understand most of the system he claims to be an expert with
