Local Directories, ranking against them a waste of time?

Is trying to rank against something like yellow pages or other local directories pointless seeing as they have almost a million domain backlinks? Have you been successful with ranking against something like this?

    I would say that it depends on which search term/s you are trying to rank for.

    Do a search using your term/s. Sometimes YP isn't even near the top. Are there any more localised websites at the top, and do you think you could out perform them?

    Best way to find out for certain is to try it.

    When i submit my links to this Business directories i dont find any changes to my keywords ranking in serps.

    It really depends on the market. You have to keep in mind that with a directory, they are trying to rank for tons and tons of different terms. If you can come along and promote a site that is well seo-ed for a relevant phrase, your chances are definitely decent.

    Business directories tend to be more entrenched in the larger cities, at least in my experience.
