Link Wheel Problem - Disappeared fm SERP

How long should we complete this link wheel building? I tried this link wheel building around 2.5 weeks ago, and since I was busy, I just made 2 link buildings (site A-B, B-C) and I intended to continue the process days later.

But to my surprise, one week later, the targeted keyword has dropped so significantly from 40's to nowhere to be found! Up to now I haven't continued the link wheel building.

Supposed I was trying to target keyword 'A'. So far I've tried increase its position in SERP only through bookmarking until it reached the position of 40's. Then I tried link wheel building accompanied by other additional posts containing keyword 'A'.

What did I do wrong here? Was it the additional posts containing keyword 'A', or the link wheel thing?

I'm totally frustrated...

    Your success in link wheel depends on many factors:
    - quality of your article
    - did you use open or close circle
    - how many time you did that
    - did you use proxies or not
    - did you set anchor text in the right way ... etc

    Google dance also all the time and for sometime you can see real results also.

      I used open circle and unique and original content (around 150 words)...
      any idea?

        My articles are always atleast 400 words ( use Dragon so it takes me about 5-7 minutes for 400 words ), but usualy they are 500-600 words all unique.

        AS far as I know you shouldnt use a closed circle, becuase the big G catches on and all the links in the circle go down hard. Try A-B B-C C-D and stop.

        Increase your word count, and go for PR7 and higher + ezine.

          Does simply submitting to bookmarks give you the same good impact compared to link wheel strategy?

            If it was the same, than people wouldnt bother with the wheel. The wheel just boosts the process and the backlinks a bit. Could be the difference between lets say 10 and 5 place or maybe even #5 and #3...which would lead to huge increases in $.
