Say BYE-BYE to Google.cn from today

People in China found this early morning that they could, no longer access google.cn, it redirects to google.com.hk.

Some also found that if you seach the name of China's President Hujintao on google.com.hk, they could not visit google.com.hk in a few minutes.

Looks like they are done with China. I'm just not sure if the redirect was necessary?

China was a big market and Google will surely repent on their move out of China... They wouldn't off course in the first hand but they had to move out!

I guess both the parties will repent in some or the other way.
Google had no other option but to move out, as most of the local citizens do not use google search engines, as baidu search engine being so popular

The bigger picture is it's becoming harder for many industries to do business in China as they have started putting in place barriers toward outside companies and favoring their own. Google is the tip of the ice berg lot's of companies are weighing staying and submitting or going.

The 2+ billion market that many hoped to tap in a big way has been unrealized for most and now state favored companies are getting the lions share of many industries. For many the draw is waning.

In the last year, Rio Tinto who supplies ore to Chinese mills raised prices. Guess what happened? China arrests several of their executives on spying charges.

China is getting greedy and stupidly short sighted. Kudos to Google for leaving.
