Are you referring to 'seeing' what backlinks your site has? or something that checks to see if your backlinks are still present on the page?

I like Backlink Watch the best too but it seems to exceed its usage limits a lot. Still, it's not like I want to check every day so I may just wait till the next day or something if I can't get it to work on one day.

Its good to keep checking your backlinks. To take care of their present status, if they are still on the page for which you have exchanged a link or paid. And if you have paid for a link(which is not a good thing to do in eyes of Google) it becomes a necessary practice for you to take care of your links, after all you have paid for it.

But what else are the reasons you check your backlinks?

    For example
1.you can check to keep an eye on your competitor activities.
2.or you can also check it to get an estimate of the time frame it may take to get your site rank on search engines.

What else is the reason you check your backlinks?

I use Yahoo Site Explorer, since Google Webmaster doesn't show much if any backlinks that I have. Also, I use SEO For Firefox plugin to check for PR, etc.

I find backlink watch to be the most accurate. I too love numbers and stats and find myself checking backlink numbers on a daily basis.
