A worrying coincidence?

Hello

I became determined to promote one of my pages.

I wrestled with article submitters, but out of date directory files made them useless without a lot of tweaking.

So I spent a leisurely day submitting my article to 50 directories, so far so good.

The page I was trying to promote was at the top of the second page of Google.

After finishing my article submissions, I had a look, and Google had shunted my page down to the bottom of page 3.

By coincidence one of the articles I had submitted was at the top of page 2, where my other page had been.

Should I be worried about this sudden drop in page rank?

Thank you.

Richard

Whenever you start a campaign like this, Google shuffles things around. Takes time for it to settle. Give it a couple of weeks and see how it stands then.

give it some time Richard if you did your article distribution correctly your site will gain more authority on Google.

When you say you're promoting a page. Are you talking about a one page website?

Thank you sbucciarel I did wonder if it was something like that.

zoulkifl. The page in question is one page of my website.

What worried me was that maybe I was submitting to too many directories in one day, though article submitters (when they work) submit to hundreds?

      Should I only submit to a few a day/week?

      Thank you for your help.

Suzanne's advice is spot on. Once I had a client who held the #2 overall spot for a very competitive keyword for months. He hired me to get him to #1 and the day we started backlinking to his site his site fell all the way down to page 87 and I about had a heart attack. The next day the site slipped off the radar completely. Talk about freaking out! But the next day the client phoned me excited and praising me up and down for getting him to the #1 spot. I rushed to my laptop while we talked and checked his ranking and there it sat right smack dab on top of the heap.

Things like that don't bother me anymore because of the number of campaigns we run. From experience we know that a site destined to be #1 one day will jump all over the serps before it finds it's rightful spot at #1.

I suggest you keep doing what you're doing. You'll get there soon enough.

Like Suzanne said, it's perfectly normal. Google is just trying to figure out where everything belongs in relation to that keyword. Besides, things are always ever changing in the world of rankings as stated in this post:
