Did anyone else see a dramatic reduction of their backlinks indexed in Yahoo site explorer? I'm thinking they are doing some sort of update.

Looks like I spoke too soon. One site is showing a huge decrease in Backlinks indexed.

I have noticed for some time that Yahoo does not index all the links like it used to. Maybe they are copying Google and won't be showing backlinks at all in future.

Thanks everyone, at least we know it is "a level playing field" and I/you didn't do something wrong.

I have a slight feeling this is eliminating similar content with links pointing at the website and perhaps "low quality" links pointing at the website being "deindexed as a backlink in Yahoo".

FYI I am using the SEO Addon Plugin for Google Chrome.

Like any other search engine yahoo is updating that's why other backlinks were reduced or disappeared just like google it will be back in its natural environment when the update is done.

Is there any other monitor that uses data collection not sourced from Site Explorer that we could check against? Like Market Samurai or another app? Or does all of it come from Yahoo's DB?

MS also gets its backlink data from Yahoo Site Explorer.

They update all the time.. if your links get removed somewhere.. on a sitewide site, for instance, you can lose a huge number of links.

If only you see changes in number of backlinks, its not problem but if your ranking and number of your indexed pages has been deceased too, maybe you did some wrong work for promoting your website and you should try to find it. I have seen it and i am not telling it just as a guess.

If I go to yahoo and search site:mydomain on yahoo.co.uk it shows a third of the links that show up when I use the google chrome seo plugin, this takes you to a yahoo page for the .com site and all the backlinks are showing. Maybe there are regional variations going on
