With Google's tool doing keyword research in January when the sale of some items slump you're looking at December's search results.

Or using Wordtracker (which goes one year for their search data) early in the year for HDTV's for example (not that I ever did these things mind you

    You can use Google Insight for Search and get a good understanding of annual search patterns across the calendar (it shows seasonality for products/services, as well as if your keyword is increasing or decreasing in search volume)
