Hey guys, is there a point in having bare text in a backlink? Like just your URL, does that provide any help to boost you in the SERPS?

    Yes, it does. Remember most people that use anchor text backlinks are webmasters, the general public likes to copy and paste URLs.

    Absolutely!

    Anchor text is important to let the search engines know what the page of content is about, but a link with unrelated text or that of your URL is still valuable and in fact is good practice..

    Having all your anchor text say the same thing can trip a Google filter. You want to throw in a good percentage of links that have modifiers in them for the keywords your going after...

    ...and those that say "Click Here" or "www.yourdomain.com or "domain.com"..

    This just looks more natural to Google and this is what you want to achieve...

    If you do some research using Open Site Explorer: Link Popularity & Backlink Analysis Tool

    You will find that usually the 80% of link anchor are:
    Websitename
    www.websitename.com
    websitename.com
    Click here
    This website
    Here

    I made a few test on this and discovered that if your website gets 60%+ of optimized anchor text you will get a penalization!

    Yes, I also agree with Wes on this. It's also a good way in getting easy backlinks, since it still passes through pagerank (if the link is dofollow), helps in getting your new pages indexed by search engines and also helps in improving your site's crawl rates.

    Yes it is good to just use your URL the odd time, it is natural, will still boost your Page rank and helps you round out your link profile
