Hi there. I have market samurai but i just want some pointers. The folks in market samurai say to put in filters of 80 searches per day and only 30,000 competing results.

Do you all agree with this or can we drop the searches a little and increase the competing results. What do you all suggest. I want your thoughts for someone who writes a lot on a blog and want good seo titles for my posts....

    Hey slingingshot15,

Market Samurai comes with two preset search options. The one you're referring to, the Golden Rule, and also a preset called Longtails. I use the Golden Rule filter to discover the most competitive keywords that I'll go for and possible use as domain names, and the Longtail filter for keywords that will be post titles.

The "Longtail" filter has a lower required search volume at 10 visitors per day in the 1 spot. If you're building links on your own via article submissions, etc. You won't want any of your keywords to have over 30,000 competing results.

Actually, you can push up the competing websites to 50,000 for many keywords as it really depends on how good they are. With a little experience you can push even higher.

Just give those sites a shot first. If you find that with your resources and budget you can quickly rank for those sites you may want to push it up to 60k and go after even more competitive keywords. But if 30k is too much you may want to take it down. If you're new to seo or IM in general 30k is not a bad place to start.

Please keep in mind that you should also take into account the competitors on page 1 for each keyword, not just the number of competitors.

People say it because usually keywords with about 3,000 searches per month and less than 20,000 or 30,000 competitors are easy to rank and you can rank your website easily for them. But its not the law and its possible that you find a keyword with high searches per month and more competitors but easy to compete and it depends on you. You should analyze the keywords and see the situation of their ranking, backlinks, pagerank and like these factors.

Start finding keywords that have x,xxx searches per month with less than 500 competing sites.

Why make it hard for yourself?
