Hi There
I have a few web sites and was wondering if linking them together would help me in the SEO game.
They are all to do with different aspects of IM. I have been told that this would not help me.
Your opinions would be much apreciated.
Regards Tony B.

Hi There Thanks for the replies.
Someone told me that Google and other search engines has the ability to tell who owns the Website hence if you link all your sites together it sees this as trying to cheat the system.

Can Google realy tell who owns the Domain name?. Quite frankly I find it hard to believe.

I don't think it helps to link your sites together if they are all hosted at the same ip address, Google sees that, not who's the owner.

that will be just fine. there is no problem doing that...

I've done it and still do, infact i have many sites on the same domain, same ip, same host, all using internal linking from one related document to another, just like wiki-pedia, and rank quite high for a lot of terms.

so for all of you who say it doesn't work, would be nice if you actually test it out before giving your opinions. cos sadly to say, you're all wrong.

    Brakers,

If they are on the same ip Google can spot selve serving links so there may be personal branding benefits but "G" doesn't like cross-linking that it can 'see'. So if you are looking for SERP improvements as a result of doing this your efforts would be better spent elsewhere..

Are they on the same IP? You would certainly gain from the fact that people could easily hop over from one site to another, but for SEO purposes... probably not... especially if each one is linked back to all of them.

As Loz has pointed out, test it out and see what works for you. There's always a big difference between conjecture and proof, so he's right to point that out.

I, personally, would not go overboard on cross-linking because even if it works now it wouldn't take much for Google to tweak their algorithm to accomodate. It doesn't cost much to get a hosting package with diverse ip's or use free platforms to get what at least appears to be 'real world links'.

I have three websites that are all linked together. They are all related and I make all links contextual (i.e., not just a bunch of links). They do help with SEO. I've put up a page and only linked to it from my sites. Then I've pinged the site linking to that page. After that, I google (perhaps a day later) the title and there is my website pointing to the linked post/page. Of course, that is just for experiments. I then go about building many more links.
