  • Profile links still work. What methods are you using to get them indexed? Maybe Google isn't picking them up or is Google indexing them but your not seeing a boost in the SERPs?

I just posted a guide on my blog for forcing google to index your links.

    • Thanks JayVance...that is a awesome post...As far as Indexing I'm using backlink booster..just started this week...so how long have you been using profile links ?
  • I don't believe they do, but people swear by them.

I think if you are building links, you should build high quality links that will result in traffic. Profile links don't generate traffic while you're waiting for a boost in the SERPs so I never focus much time on them.

    • You really should try focusing on them for a while, because profile links generate traffic FROM boosting your SERP. In micro niches they can boost you fast, getting you a great deal more traffic than wrestling and struggling for high quality links from high traffic sources. I mean, unless you're on the front page of a high traffic site in a prime viewing area, the traffic you gain from a high quality deep link is almost surely negligible, whereas a boost to the front page of almighty G can garner you hundreds more daily hits.

Don't get me wrong, a high quality link can be worth a hundred profile links - where the search engines are concerned - but as I said, sometimes it's a pain in the cajools getting that high quality site to give a crap and link to you; whereas linking profiles is no struggle at all - minus the hassle of filling in the forms. It's worth giving it a go just to see what all the fuss is about. Test away Nameless, you might enjoy the results. And the forms aren't really that much a hassle if you have Roboform.

And to the OP, yes, they still work, as part of a larger and more comprehensive link building and SEO strategy (which certainly includes going after the high quality links Nameless mentioned).

It's social bookmarking links that haven't boosted my SERP by any real stretch, and I've tested the hell out of manual bookmarking as well as Onlywire's 40 site setup. It's not a waste of time per say, but the value of these links is, well, meh.

Bookmarking Demon is a whole other beast though. I've seen folks soar their SERP from proper use of that software.
  • I've been using profile links as one method of backlinking, I have several methods that I use, but I have one site where 3/4 of it's backlinks are forum links and it is a big reason why I'm number one for two competitive keywords.

I've used Angela's and Paul's backlink packets in the past and saw some nice results. I will warn you though that just one week you might not see any jumps in your rankings. It may take a bit longer even if Google indexes your links. Expect to see what some call the "Google Dance," this is where you will see your website wildly jump around in the rankings. So don't freak when you see this, patience is key when it comes to SEO.

    • Yes I'm seeing that now on one site..it's gone..not even in the top 1000...but it is still Indexed

  • Yes, add your website link in that box.

I've been using link2rss for a couple months. I've been using this method for a long time but I was doing it by hand with icerocket.

    • Is this getting your profile links Indexed ?...because right now I'm paying a service $38.00 per month to do just that..backlink booster.

  • Also another thing you can try is posting the RSS link on Public timeline - Identi.ca Even though the links are no-follow Google Crawls the site frequently and will follow the link.
  • I think you would need hundreds or thousands of profile links to start seeing any good results. Supposedly google gives very little weight to them.

    • Have you used them before ?
    • You really don't need that many. Test it if you don't believe me. People wouldn't buy Angela's and Paul's forum backlink packets if they didn't work. And those packets are VERY popular.
    • quality profile links works better than quantity profiles links. If you are building profile links form forums then you must active on that forum or else its worse.Even it ranks when you are active but when you are inactive then it starts decreasing SERP.I have seen this for my sites.
This are just my thoughts so you can try other member posts too.
  • Bty do you know any tool that can tell me if 3000 profiles are indexed. Which ones are and which ones no?

    • Hi

Profile linking works, but you cannot bring a search term ranking in the 4th page to the first page of google. You have to pick keywords in top 20 and work on it. It will definitely show awesome improvement in SERP. Also, make sure you don't do it too spammy.

    • how about the term [ backlinks ] ?
  • why not? it's looks like an organic seo. but we all know that we can register lots of profiles

    • Google also knows that. Which is why I don't believe they work as well as they used to.

Just try it out and see.
  • I use profile links, along with blog comments, social bookmarking, directory submissions and articles.

I think they are very valuable and an integral part of a link building campaign but like any one avenue you need to use multiple platforms to get your backlinks from.

If you are using smalller forums it may take a while to get your profile pages indexed, consider pinging them or submitting them to a social bookmarking site to speed this up. Most forums, however, are SEO friendly so if you just keep building links it will catch up with you.
  • In short, yes they do, but only if done properly:

    • I have been experimenting with profile links some lately - and they are working. I can't say if they work as well as they "used to" because I didn't use them back then. But I am definitely seeing improvement.

The biggest problem that I noticed with the profile links is that I would get a ton of them and none of them end up indexed... Even if I put them in RSS feeds and pinged them and other similar strategies, that would get some of them indexed but really not very many overall.

I'm currently working on a large network of sites using Backlink Energizer to make sure that a MUCH higher percentage of the links get indexed. I'm seeing great results so far.

    • As far as profile backlinks are concerned, the link I previously posted should explain some things.

As for other methods, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about building links through article submission, article distribution, press release submission, video marketing, social bookmarking, RSS, etc. - not exactly white hat vs. black hat, but a similar argument.

I don't have the time to delve into each one, I was simply making a point. Enjoy.
  • Yes, they works if they are indexed. You can post your profile links URL to different forums and bookmarking site to get indexed.
  • Once again some great input for the warriors on here, and some food for thought.
  • Profile links still works but just like they said they need to be index first before you can see the result. You need to be patience as well because result may take some time.
  • That is no grounds on whether something works or not. There are still people using hidden text to stuff keywords.... do you think that works?

I don't believe profile links will benefit you much at all. I suggest you test it out yourself, maybe it will work for you!
  • i believe that profiles links are helpful

    • profile links are the easiest to get. And can significantly increase your ranks when used in abundance.
  • Thanks everyone...looks like some believe they work and some don't...I guess I will just have to test this out and see for myself.
  • A backlink is a backlink..no matter from where you get it..so go for it and grab as much as u can
  • yup still works
  • i usually add few text lines to the profile so google will have a text to crawl and will not treat them like a blank pages.
  • I just spent half a day cleaning up one of my sites because of idiots like you who spam boards with your fake names and sig links. Thanks a lot.
  • What do Profile Links Mean ?Do they really improve keywords ranking ?

    • it means registering an account in a forum and add your website url to your profile bio to get a backlink

  • I think profile links still work.
  • Everything started with Angela and Pauls backlinks and it soon became a craze.
There are two big themes to the revamped design: a bigger emphasis on keeping things visually interesting, and streamlining the design to make it easier to find information people actually care about. Facebook Product Manager Peter Deng explains that on the old profiles, some of the most popular features and information has been a pain to find -- the 'View more photos' link, for example, is immensely popular, but it's been nestled between far less important links for years.

  • Are they still working since the Google update ?...anyone ?

    • Of course, why would they not be "working" now? Everything still 'works,' you just have to go about it the right way, which most people don't.
