Automatic Rankings Checkers are against google TOS, how do you check your SERP rankings

I was just double checking that all my sites comply with googles webmaster guidelines and I found the page about automated queries being forbidden. (cant link it, post count is still too low)

I have been using a WP plugin called SEO Rank Reporter. It was recommended on a forum or blog, I have no idea where as I've taken in a lot of info and addons over the last few weeks.

I LOVE this addon, but apparently it is against google webmaster guidelines to send automated queries. This addon checks your sites ranking automatically every 3 days for whatever keywords you want. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that this addon must be doing EXACTLY what google says not to do: send automated search queries to see how a site ranks.

Im a total noob so my question is what do you pros use to check ranks? A few of my sites are targeting multiple keywords so I don't want to manually check 20 KW's to see how I'm ranking every few days.

Im Looking for a tool like SEO Rank Reporter that will track a large number of keywords per site (10-20+)

Any advice is appreciated

  • I am not sure about using a plugin and it being against the TOS, but thanks for sharing. I know that I run a check every day using seosuites when I start a new site just to see how it is dancing and how it is responding to the work that I am putting into it. I have been doing it for years and never run into any problems.
  • Checking your site automatically once every 3 days isn't going to trip a filter.

Most keyword research software makes dozens of queries then stops and "rests" then starts over again.

Google simply doesn't have the resources to stop these auto queries by any other means than banning IP's.

Check how the plugin works, I doubt you have much to worry about.

But a much better strategy is to forget all the rank checking, it won't make you money. Get a Google Analytics account and let them tell you what keywords are bringing traffic.
  • I think you over estimate google, if the plugin was designed to send hundreds of queries per day I would worry, but for rank checking I think it sends one or can be configured
  • if you are sending only few queries a day then it won't be a problem. If you send hundreds of queries then they will ban the IP.

    • ok thanks guys, thats what I was hoping to hear

Just starting out and trying to make sure i don't make google mad
  • Hello!

I believe it is totally fine for Google to send 1 or 2 automatic requests per day. You can utilize Google SERP Checker by Easy SEO Tracking. It allows you to configure google domain of the country you are targetting.

It sends you daily emails with the positions of you keywords and also you can save the data in your account.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

    Thank you.

    • It seems this tool is not very accurate about given results...i've tried with several keywords on Google.com and ranking position are often quite different from real ones (personal search options off)
  • Always go for manual checking for the SERP.. automated software are not that much accurate.

    • then what should be the bets way of doing it
  • do it manually, otherwise rank tracker is best one to check your search engine ranking position.
  • Rank checker is good. because it sends quaries but google don't know site that checking.
