If they are quality backlinks the search engines will do this for you. I only ping new content that I create. Check out this blog post Best Quality Back Links For Local SEO.

Yes, I try to ping my backlinks - not all of them but some of the important ones (High PR, etc). Google can take some time in finding and indexing some of these links.

Depends how many backlinks you are talking about.
If you only have a few it will not hurt, but if you have thousands you shouldnt ping them all at once.

I usally ping some of my backlinks. And as told in recent post don't mass ping thousands of backlinks.

Let google find them on their own.

If you have less backlinks then you can ping them but if you have a big lists then I would suggest not to ping them..

I don't understand the trepidation when pinging. Take some time to seriously watch the effects of pinging - it's not a very effective means to get your backlinks indexed, especially if you have a few hundred or thousand links to index rather than a handful of blog comments.

Waiting for Google to find your backlinks is okay as long as you know that this can take a long time, but there are ways to speed up indexation...

1) Social Bookmarks
2) Links from popular blogs
3) Links from popular forums (http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...n-2-hours.html)
4) RSS submission (use html2rss.com to convert your backlinks into RSS feeds)
4) Backlink Energizer
5) Monthly indexing services (linlicious.me, backlinksindexer.com)

Getting your backlinks indexed isn't all that hard, it just has to be treated like another project and be taken seriously. You'll have to keep a file of all the links you've built and then act upon (or pay) for one of the above strategies.

Just don't worry that somehow you'll overdo it with pinging.

I tried pinging for months and I never really saw much of a difference. It seemed that the crawl rate went up but that's about it. It wasn't until I started making a serious effort to INDEX by backlinks that I saw noticeable returns. I used to use LJM but have since switched to Backlinks Indexer just because of how many people have been reporting great results. So far it seems to walk the walk but I need to do more testing to know for sure.

I would suggest you to ping only high quality backlinks only if they have not been indexed by google or other search engine. and it also true that yahoo and bing tend to index links more frequently then google.

You should at least ping your backlinks once. I have designed a random schedule ping tool called Nuclear Ping Scheduler, this tool will help you schedule your backlinks for pinging.

If you want to ensure your backlinks are crawl or index, there are various indexing and crawling service around, or alternatively check my signature for some other services.

No its not necessary to ping our backlinks if I created backlink on high PR sites then Google automatically consider it. So ping our backlinks is not a good idea.

I disagree. Pinging your backlinks will ensure Google found it. Some platforms might not include your backlinks in their sitemap, or home page or any indexed inner pages, only ping will make sure they are found.

High PR sites tends to get index much easier with a simple ping.

Definitely. You want your links to be crawled by Google, so you need to ping until the spiders come crawling. If you don't want to do that, I recommend using a service like Linklicious.

After using our own link checker Xrumer will drop off after 2 weeks after they've been built so I wouldn't recommend waiting that long..I would do it quicker than that.

FYI We ran a batch of xrumer links through our own link checking program and we found that only about 30% of the profiles actually contained backlinks.

No need to ping your backlinks. Google finds social bookmarking links within minutes of posting a story. Same goes for web 2.0 blogs, blog posts on private networks, high pr blog comments, etc.

Not sure about big xrumer blasts, those links may not get found so quick. Low quality profile links have been devalued a lot over the last couple years anyway.

The feedbacks are leading? or misleading? I am going to ping my backlinks that I created some days back because I have not been seeing them indexed at the rate at which I want, by Google. But, I will safely drip-ping them may be ping less than 5% of the links I created at a time and do it daily or alternate days. I think this would be safer.

As for me I am not pinging any of my backlinks. I just let Google find them for me. Through this, your link building will appear more natural to Google.

Exactly!

If letting google finding the links on its own make it appear more naturaly, then the flip side would be that pinging your links (all at once) would make it appear to be 'unnatural'! Would that raise any red flags? or cause any type of potential penalties?

Ping can help in certain case, like to help crawler index your backlinks. However, it's good to make it go naturally, or just do it for few not for entire total of your backlinks in one time

pinging your links can always help, it's when you ping everything all at once that it can have detrimental effects--if you do ping, don't do hundreds upon thousands at a time, try between 50-100 per day, so that the crawling rate comes across more naturally.

I don't ping links. I build losts of link to links. Unfortunately for newbies this will be difficult. Until you can handle mass link spamming tools then you might need an indexing service. But use something that builds links, not just pings.
