Hey guys and gals,

we have a couple google news sites, one in the tech niche and one in the general news area. We have no problems monetizing the tech one, but Im interested to hear how you warriors with G news sites go about monetizing your general news sites.

We have not tried CPA yet, but so far we are taking a huge loss on content vs revenue even with 1k+ traffic per day.

thought about subscription fees, but not sure exactly how to go about setting that up via WordPress.

I used AdSense and nothing else. I was able to generate $100 to $200+ per day after I got the hang of it.

You can sell news releases, but don't go crazy with this as Google will start to wonder if you are publishing dozens of news releases each day. And they must be tagged properly with the Google News Sitemap.

Watch for high priced internet marketing product releases and write your own news release on them. I know someone that drove quite a bit of traffic to a $2K product with a 50% commission.

Lead capture is a method I have heard a lot about. I never tried that but heard of many making good money with it.

I have not been to Google Red Carpet in some time, but last I heard he opened that up to everyone for no cost. It used to be a good place to learn about this type of stuff. Check it out and see what you think. It might help you interact with other news publishers and learn from them. Or not?

Is yours a general news site? Our adsense generation is about $5.00 per day on the general news site, and can't seem to get any higher.

My site was a general news site, mostly USA stuff, but some world news. I watched my key words and always went for higher paying terms. But if you can get enough traffic you can make money with even $0.14 clicks, which I did Thanksgiving day with a couple of turkey articles. It took 1,500 clicks to get to $220 as I remember.

Mostly you have to pay attention to what is going to be the big news draw of the day, and get your articls out there to gather that traffic. But try to tailor it to higher paying CPC words, as that is what will control your ad display.

Sell it to all the right places and make sure that you capture a prominent place when it comes to placing your ads. Also have a good R&D team who will let you know what news story is the most likely to get a large number of clicks from the users. To make a decent amount of money you need to have a decent number of clicks to your site.

The aforementioned tips on finding trending news, employing high paying CPC keywords are all legitimate ways to get you there. Over time, you could gradually shift the focus of your general news site to a high paying niche (as far as adsense is concerned). Of course if you're bleeding cash and have an immediate need to stop it, you could sell the GNews site. We've seen 1K-2K for a GNews site, and a recent sale at 850 which closed quickly.
