Local SEO Question...

Hi, just posted this in the main forum but then realised I should have posted this here...

Hope you guys can help answer a question for me >>

If I have a business based in a city like London what's the best way to structure the site so it shows up for searches in London on local places names in and around where my office is based e.g. Hampstead, Golders Green, Swiss Cottage.

Obviously I've just got the one Google Places page that links to the site but not sure how to do the on page and on site optimisation or structure.

Also what domain name should I get. Should it be like www.dentistsnorthwestlondon.co.uk or a specfic place name such as the place that's closest to the office such as www.dentistsgoldersgreen.co.uk

Thanks in advance guys for any help...

Grant

It's a city like london? Like a sister city?

What city are you in SPECIFICALLY, and assuming it's near london - how far are you from there?

If you're TOO far from London, it could be hard to rank - but if you're close it will be possible.

I'd set up your Google Local Profile like you would on page seo
Title: North West London Densist | website.com
Description: Keyword friendly but not spammy description
    Keywords: should be obvious

Upload the max of 10 pictures, and 5 videos

That should give you a good start and wont take longer than 15-20 minutes to do.

After that, start getting REAL reviews (important they're from varied IP addresses and NOT faked) and google local citations.

    Thanks Guru Slayer

Sorry to confuse but the business and office is in London. So the place names I mentioned above are actual places in North West London.

So I'm trying to decide on the keywords to build my campaign around.

I'm thinking it should be "North West London" with the key place names that are in this area of London and close to the office, on the home page, and then have individual pages each dedicated to each one of these places within North West London.

    Does that make sense??

So for example, when doing keyword titles for SEO promotions such as blog posts, videos and articles would i use all the various place names (there are about 5 or 6 in that area) in the titles or put just 2 or 3 and repeat the process?

    What do you think?

Jeff is the name, slaying guru lies is my game. ;-)

For the title, do NOT use a spammy title name, just use one keyword and the business name like I did above. Keyword spam is bad in google maps, so keep it simple and use the main/most searched keyword in the title. For the DESCRIPTION, be sure to use the same main keyword once, and give a nice and short 'about us' for the business.

For the keyword tags, you can use 5 - one HAS to be a pre-set google one (for example, Dentist) and the other 4 can be keywords you chose
      london dentist
      dentist in london
      etc

      I hope this helps

Keep it simple, here's one I did for a friend a year and a half ago or so if you want an example:

      Orange County Massage Therapy

    Jeff

    Thanks.

Could you answer this question as it's really bugging me...

I don't know what to do on the site in terms of on page optimisation if I want to show for the multiple place names that are all close to my office in London.

Any suggestions on how I should set things up?

My problem is I can't see how you can do this if you are focused on one keyword place name?

Do I create sub pages focused on each place name such as "dentists golders green" and link that back with anchor text back to the home page where that place name is also referenced in the home page body text.

    ???

If you want to show up for multiple place names, you need to own multiple physical locations. That's the white hat way, there are some gray and BlueFart methods that I won't get into but you can probably find if you google them.

If you have physical offices - then set up a profile for each one, optimize it for the city it's in and you'll be good. We can get into citations later once you do that. :-)

If you just have ONE office, in London, it'll be a bit trickier unless there's no competition for the niche you're in. I would imagine dentists are still fairly competitive in the UK? Your best bet is, optimize for the main city you're in - or if you're feeling lucky try to optimize for London itself. (OR NW/SW London, etc)

On the other hand, what you can also do is simply set up landing pages on your WEBSITE for each city near london (Golders green, etc) and optimize that page for that city/location. Obviously, this wont rank your google maps profile but it'll still be a good ranking if you do it right.

Generally speaking, it's hard to rank ONE (Google local) listing on page 1 for the SAME google maps profile for MULTIPLE cities, unless there is zero competition in that niche. Make sense?

Basically, if you're looking to dominate all of London and surrounding cities with one google maps profile, it probably wont happen.
