I find the most reliable to be MajesticSEO.

Im not sure if Yahoo Site Explorer is updating anymore because yahoo are closing the service down soon. It doesn't seem to be updating, looking at the SEOQuake toolbar.

I use a free downloadable program called SEO spyglass. It takes longer than using some of these web services, but it gives lots more info like anchor text, PR of the site linking from, etc.

In my opinion, We should consider Google Webmaster Tools for the backlink count. If you want to rank on Google just check which links Google are considering as Backlink.

Why we should look at backlinks on other tools. They just give the number of links submitted in various websites not the actual backlinks which Google consider as ranking signal. This is my thinking though.

MajesticSEO is best to check backlinks. Even Google Webmaster also shows more number of links now a days. Yahoo Explorer is not updated and they are going to close explorer in December.

I used to depend mainly on backlinkwatch but now I found MajesticSEO is quite good for checking backlinks.

Baklink Watch has a limit of 1000 backlinks. SEO SPYGLASS pro version will display more than 1000 backlinks of a website. You can also check for the PR, total links on the page, link value and more.

I used to use Yahoo site explorer but now it's backlinkwatch and MajesticSEO. Good to use a variety to check your links.

MajesticSEO has been most effective for me. Please note that backlinks take time to show up in backlink checkers. It is not automatic, as these tools are not updated frequently.

But mostly I just look at results and see who is ahead of me. Then I take a look at their Alexa data. IMHO Alexa gives you some of the best information out there. Is it quantified sufficiently? Not for some people, but it gives a good relative snapshot which frankly is usually all I really need!

Just sayin' that I think we tend to overthink some of this stuff!

I have 100s of websites. I am looking for a way to track the backlinks of each site without having to go to MajesticSEO.com every day and enter the data into Excel - for every site (impractical).

I need a solution to track the backlinks my sites have over time. I'm looking for software that checks MajesticSEO daily if possible and keeps the data in a system.

All I would need to do is enter the website and then its backlinks would be checked and logged in the system for me to view.

Then I could see how many backlinks my team is building to my sites over time.

I'd like to see graphs of each site's backlink count. January - 100 Backlinks, Macrh 350 backlinks, etc.

Is there a solution you guys know of? Wouldn't this be a useful tool?

Both will not show all backlinks, actually there is no such tool that show all backlinks for website but for getting idea you should try yahoo site explorer if it is working or another tools

Premium version of open site explorer is good in analyzing the back links. prior I used yahoo site explorer to check backlinks. It was a wonderful tool among all Yahoo products. I hope they will come back with one such tool by collaborating with any other company.

Google PR are going to be incorrect because after they changed there algorithm many tools that check for backlinks are no longer able to produce correct results. Yahoo Webmaster Tools is now integrated with Bing so signup for an account with them and they are very good at producing results. The only issue with Bing is that only produce results for your website and not your competitors.

Download Chrome and get a few extensions through them and I have yet to try all of them with any luck. Let me know if you find one that works well.

According to me yahoo site explorer which is now become bing webmaster tool is more reliable than the google webmaster tool for checking backlinks because in checking backlinks yahoo's algorithm is more powerful than Google So, go for it.

Majestic SEO is all that I use after Yahoo explorer died and it's great.

I personaly have two tools that I use, one is seoquake and the other is the alexa tool bar. Both give the back links to your site. seoquake give a much more detailed list and more information and it is a free add on for firefox.

Yahoo Explorer was one of the favorite tool I was using but recently the have stopped the service. Backlinkwatch[dot].com, backlinkcheck[dot].com are same of online tools you can use for checking your back links. Other option is using Google web master tool which will provide the detailed reports of back links only problem you have to sign in in order to view it.

Use open site explorer its great but it will then update after one month for particular website

Obviously, Google webmasters tool is far more reliable. But also use Backlinkwatch[DOT]com. Also, install Google Analytics to see more information about your site other than back links.

My opinion is that Google Webmaster tool is one of best back link checker tool. I always use this tool. It is very useful tool for SEO.

Yahoo site explorer doesn't give any data. you can use majesticseo dot com. I think it is good. you can use this to check your backlinks and also backlinks of your competitors. you can also use Google search engine by typing link:yoursite dot com. But this doesn't give lot of data and sometimes it doesn't give data at all. But if google gives that data, it will be useful for you to find your competitor back link data.

I am kind of new here but what gives, we were all n00bs once. It seems to me this is between BackLinkWatch and Spyglass. My question is that Spyglass is paid, and I don't mind, but does it have the competition baclinks checker? I am quite interested on that one for obvious reasons.

MajesticSEO seems to do the job quite good and quite fast. Have a site which is about a month old and Majestic is the only tool already seeing backlinks on the domain..

Hey everyone. I’m still new at this so hopefully I’m not missing anything completely obvious, but I’m trying to gauge the number of backlinks certain sites have and in researching the forum and this thread, there a lot of options and a lot of opinions.

The problem/question I have is that I’m getting vastly different results from all of them and I have no idea which is correct or which I should be targeting.

(for SEOQuake, I’m looking at both the SEMRush numbers, as well as the Google Links that must be manually turned on).

The difference is pretty extreme – sometimes talking in the thousands of BL vs 0.

Here’s an example. I did a google search for “Internet Marketing” and randomly chose “Internetmarketing.com”, the second result for me.

That is obviously a HUGE discrepancy. I have no idea which one is accurate and which are the numbers I should be targeting when I’m doing my research. Am I interpreting the numbers wrong? Am I looking at the wrong numbers?

I strongly recommend Majestic SEO for checking backlinks. It gives you details on Fresh Indexes and Historic ones, Top Pages and the sites that have are linking to yours with the anchor texts used. Also, it has complete details on AC ranks for measuring the backlink page's importance.

+1 for MajesticSEO.

I don't like backlinkwatch.com because of the ads and popups.

You can also have MajesticSEO through Market Samurai.

I'm checking many domains everyday and in the long run I found that MajesticSEO and ahrefs are the most accurate.
And for free tool: backlinkanalyze dot com is doing well.

I use Market Samurai, they have a partnership with Majestic Seo but they pay the bill. You get a full back links count and anchor text analysis.

Try ahrefs.com. It will give you very deep and detailed report. Beware though, you can only check 3 urls a day.
