Web 2.0 Pyramid To Link Up Private Blogs in a Network

I know we should never interlink blogs in a private network, as that will leave a huge footprint, but how about having a pyramaid Web 2.0 sites acting as buffers between them.
For example, blog A links to the bottom base of a pyramid Web 2.0 and then the top vertex site of the pyramid to link to blog B. I know this will take longer time for the pagerank (link juice) to pass on to blog B, but do you think that will also leave a traceable footprint and should never be done?
