On a new site full of content- What's the first thing I should do?

Nothing is indexed yet and I'm guessing I don't want to make a mistake by throwing too many backlinks at it.

Fist safe step?

    If nothing is indexed yet than it's time to get it indexed!

    Start building some links to it. Don't go too crazy with the backlinks, just start building some.

    These days it seems like Google is putting a bigger emphasis on social signals. I'd say make accounts on Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, Digg and any other social sites relevant to your niche.

    Adding these social signals along with solid link building is always a solid step for a new site. While your at it, I'd go ahead and register for a Google Webmaster Tools account so that you can monitor Google's crawling of your site.

      Firstly you need to check the content quality, then the keyword density, keywords proximity. Submit your site to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other local search engines. Create some backlinks on relevant sites with good PR.

    You need to first review your site thoroughly to find out mistakes and some things you missed to have in the website like canonical, redirects, alt tags on images, keyword density checking, meta tags and many others.

    After that submit your website in Major search engines. Do some search engine submissions to invite crawlers to index your website.

    Verify your website in Google webmaster tools and you can also verify it in analytics.

    After that do make social bookmarks in top bookmarking sites to index your website faster and to make it social.

    You can also make it social via social networking sites but don't avoid social bookmarking as it will also give you some backlinks.

    Then you can slowly increase your backlinks by using various offpage techniques.
