Hands Off SEO? or do the work myself?

I've always thought that it would be much smarter to do SEO myself so I can acquire this skill.. but now I'm having second thoughts.

Why waste time when time=money? Wouldn't it be smart to spend $150 now and then get results MUCH quicker then if i were to do all the SEO myself?

I am COMPLETELY new to SEO, and literally have no idea where to even start. So what do you think? Should i do the work, or outsource it?

Thanks,
Pete

It depends on your IM goals. If your goal is to rank your website and start making money as soon as possible it would be much more beneficial for you to hire someone who not only know the ins and outs of SEO but also has access to highly effective websites for link building.

I would be vary wary about hiring VAs to do your SEO though. In my experience when I first started out these sorts of people often ran all your links through highly automated and spammy websites with minimal effort.

These links simply do not work. Find a service which has had proven past success and real testimonials or reviews. This will allow you to find a service which will best help you with your keyword rankings.

Taking the oDesk or Freelancer.com approach can take you a long time, most people have no clue what kind of links they have to build and just waste your time and money.

If you want to rank fast (as in within a month, ofcourse depending on the kw's you target) you should take a look at my sig link and read the reviews.

Wow. Not what I expected. Thanks so much. I was always thought it was a good idea to do the work myself but it seems as though the general consensus is to outsource it. Thanks for the replies. Now. How do I know which SEO service to choose... There are so many and I don't wanna get ripped off!

would also go with hands off SEO. but i come to such conclusion not pretty much the way you did. I used to do SEO myself and the results is always no good. so I outsource a lot now.

think you've got to do the SEO by yourself first then you can continue by outsourcing. this is so that you can get the feeling and at least you know what you need to outsource. If you don't know anything then just go out finding a freelancer to do SEO for you, then you will most likely end up getting scammed.

another possibility is that you might go too aggressive building link, in result, your website goes down on big G's sandbox

That's a great point. I agree that I should gain experience before just jumping into something and getting ripped off... But don't you think it might be a waste of time? As long as I choose a trustworthy freelancer then shouldn't I be ok? But thanks for the reply!
