Out of all the advices given, I think article directory can do more harm than help. Better keep away from them - they add no value to anything.

EDU Linkwheel or Pyramid is best way to go. Get one with manually built high PR links on the first tier with anchor text and 2nd tier of great links going to the 1st tier of links and your site for a wheel. Pyramid has a 3rd and maybe 4th tier of links going to the previous tier. So edu, wiki and aged web 2.0 links are loved by Google and if your wheel or pyramid is made up of those then you'll get alot of juice and move up in Google. Of course everything depends on how competitive your keyword(s) is. Nobody can guarantee you 1st page Google in a highly competitive saturated niche.

I'd say that video and social backlinks are the way to go now. With blog networks out of the picture (in the general sense) it's best to focus on more "real-world" areas where people can "naturally" share your links to get them spread around the net.

Social backlinks are great but don’t generate these yourself but instead let other people share your link around, just come up with some link baits in the form of great content or infograpics or video as already mentioned or tutorials or anything else that may go viral. It may not always go viral but if it does you get more links you can ever create yourself manually.

Old stuffs still work bro. If you haven't tried press releases, article writing and submission (top article directories) and other old stuffs, you may try it.

Another thing, there are lots of techniques where you can build backlinks to your site powerfully through tier linking and other build-backlinks-to-your-backlinks stuffs methods.

Having great quality content brings in natural links, so quality content first and foremost. Next, press releases, genuine blog comments on respected blogs in your niche, having an active social media presence, being active on forums in your niche, making informative videos and posting them to video sites, submitting to authority directories, blogging, and things of that nature.

I feel it is obvious that Google will be putting the hammer down on the artificial link building stuff like using automated software, spamming your link to blogs and forums, link wheels, spun content, etc. It's only a matter of time in my opinion.

you nailed it... This has also been a strategy which I have been using for many years which is working fine and still effective for me despite of those "changes" Google has made. Spend quality time in doing "natural links" and it'll pay all the effort.

There are many link building method. But here i define some effective link building method. They all are define as below.

1) Posting on social media sites like digg or stubleupon 2) There are sites many video sites like youtube where you are permitted to post hyperlinks on your description page, give some videos connected to your niche to these websites on a normal basis 3) Find out blogs which are famous with nice subscribers stand and are applicable to your website niche and create some normal guest post on these websites 4) Do article submission.

Regarding press releases...I did a popular WSO press release submission over a month ago, and saw no movement in the serps, it went out to over 50 high(er) pr sites, but almost all were nofollow links, and the individual pages still are mostly n/a pr...any thoughts? maybe i just need to exercise patience. I'm trying to be very cautious with my link building at the moment...

Since the distraction of the blog networks things have only gotten better with document sharing sites. My recommendation is to start distributing your content in PDF format to places such as docstoc and scribd.

Things are still the same when it comes to distributing quality content. One of the new things that Google has been looking for recently is contextual links so when creating your PDF documents, make sure you only include a single link at the bottom of the file.

This is true. Document sharing sites are great, and generally are spammed less than some of the other sources, so Google probably won't directly target them for quite some time.

I also like blog guest posting and press releases. I tend to avoid forum profiles and scrapebox blog comments.

High PR permanent links are indeed great, but must have low OBL (outbound links) .. i would say <10..

Even if the PR is genuine, i don't know where you got those figures from. So many variables invlolved, and you go around quoting numbers like that as if it's fact.

Steady flow of diversified links with diversified anchor text.
Don't be too greedy and only target one anchor text.
Don't stop backlinking because then you will be like the rest of the people who don't make money.

I agree with everyone regarding variety of link sources and types. I don't think there's one good way to get ranked anymore. BMR worked great but left a lot of damage in its demise.

I think we have to wait for the dust to settle before finding the best method, but any best method won't last. If there's one thing that's working well, Google will find it and eliminate it.

Everyone is talking about social signals now.
