That's generally what tends to happen with sources shared openly on any IM forum. However, they are a GREAT source for reverse-engineering the backlinks of other commenters. If they've commented on one blog, changes are they've commented on plenty of others.

Yup. Spamming blogs is dumb. Spamming edu blogs is just going to screw you big time. People hear .edu backlinks are great and go after them for SEO. They don't even think to themselves. An edu blog is owned by an institute of higher education. How many of you think they are going to let people spam them to promote affiliate sites? They aren't some crappy site thrown together trying to promote Viagra. They are trying to maintain a reputation for delivering a high quality education and aren't going to blow that by opening the door to spammers.

Why does Google put high emphasis on .edu backlinks? Because they are hard to get. All ethics aside, trying to spam a college website is not going to get you anywhere.

That's a good thing if you're pointing your comments at your main site. Otherwise you'll probably be sharing link juice with hundreds / thousands of sites. And some of them shady-at-best.

When you're looking at threads like this, animalshelp, you have to look at the date it was posted because chances are, its an old thread. This one is only from April of this year, but with what the OP was offering, its no surprise the link doesn't work anymore - the account where the link was posted is suspended so its likely it won't work again, unless the OP hosts it somewhere else.
