Odd Adsense question: Putting Adsense on a dropped domain that used to have Adsense on it?

This is a bit of a strange one. Recently I purchased a .com domain that happens to have the main keyword of the niche I'm targeting in it (though I didn't buy it just because it's an EMD - I don't even plan to target the homepage, just lots of inner page longtails).

When I purchased the domain, I didn't know it had previously been registered and dropped. Imagine, then, much to my surprise, that when I typed it into Google in quotes, 355 results show up.

Some of them are simple "Whois" type links, but I can also see that the previous owner had an RSS feed and posted some spammy looking answers on Yahoo! Answers like "Check out www.xxxxxxxxxx.com, they have the best answers and sell good products." Some similar stuff on Digg, too, even from 2009, so this domain has a few years of - perhaps questionable - history.

I'm almost certain the previous owner also had Adsense on it, because when searching in quotes, one of the first results is a reverseinternet.com result, showing an Adsense ID that was associated with this domain. I can see that a couple of other pretty bad, one page MFA sites stuffed with keywords and generic pictures.

It so happens that I wanted to monetize this domain with Adsense. It also happens that my articles are (from what I can see of the previous owner's work) of a much higher quality, and the spammy looking Yahoo! Answers don't look like something I'd type myself.

What I'm getting to - sorry for my long winded ways - is this: Given what I've described about this domain, do you think there's a chance it was penalized and putting Adsense on it would be risky, and do you think the poor attempt of the previous owner at spamming could be problematic in regards to the site's image (assuming another person read said Yahoo! spam and thought, "Uch, doesn't sound like a very legit site.")?

Should I abandon the domain and get a new one? I've done nothing but write a short intro on the main page.

I'd appreciate your advice; thanks!
